Title: Poll: Will Anti-Congress Mood Cause Another 'Wave' Election?

WASHINGTON — A USA TODAY/Gallup Poll finds signs that another "wave" election with the potential to dramatically change the capital's political makeup may be building.

Only 24% of those surveyed say most members of Congress deserve re-election, the lowest standing since Gallup began asking the question in 1991. Fifty-six percent say their own representative deserves another term, similar to responses just before tumultuous elections in 1994, 2006 and 2010 that changed control of the House or Senate.

And a majority of Americans, 51%, say President Obama doesn't deserve re-election; 47% say he does. In another question, Obama bests an unnamed Republican presidential candidate by 48%-45%, though he remains below the 50% threshold.

"Is there substantial dissatisfaction with the direction of the country, with the way things are, with the people in charge? The answer to that is yes," says Stuart Rothenberg, editor and publisher of the non-partisan Rothenberg Political Report, who has written about the prospect of a fourth "wave" election in a row. Less clear is whether voters are ready to blame one party or the other.

"These numbers don't say Obama is going to lose," he adds, "but as long as you have a majority of people who are disapproving and you have the president sitting only in the upper 40s, he's still at great risk."

The 2012 election is 15 months away, which is plenty of time for the political landscape to shift. About this time before the 1994 election, when Democrats lost control of the House and Senate, dismay with Congress already was set. But a year before the 2006 election, when Democrats regained control of both houses, incumbents still had somewhat higher support.

If congressional elections were held today, Americans by 49%-45% say they would vote for the Democratic candidate over the Republican.

In the GOP contest to challenge Obama, former Massachusetts governor Mitt Romney continues to lead the field, at 24%, but a potential candidate who hasn't entered the race yet is in second place.

Texas Gov. Rick Perry, who has been exploring a presidential campaign, ranks behind Romney at 17%. Minnesota Rep. Michele Bachmann, who like Perry appeals to many Tea Party supporters and Christian evangelicals, is fourth at 13%.

In third place is Texas Rep. Ron Paul, at 14%. No other Republican candidate breaks into double digits. Former House speaker Newt Gingrich is at 7%, businessman Herman Cain at 4%, former Minnesota governor Tim Pawlenty at 3%, former Utah governor Jon Huntsman at 2%, and former Pennsylvania senator Rick Santorum at 1%.

Perry narrowly leads Romney among Tea Party supporters, 23% to 22%. Bachmann claims 19% of members of the Tea Party movement.

The poll of 1,521 adults, taken Thursday through Sunday, has a margin of error of +/-4 percentage points. Subscribe to *Elections 2012*

Good.

Let's hope they throw out EVERY establishment politician from BOTH sides of the aisle, and elect people who care about about the country, instead of lining their own pockets.

Be afraid, Baghdad Brian... Be VERY afraid...

What, little bucky?

Still feeling the pangs of your inferiority complex?

*PSSST...* It's NOT a complex.

After you receive your hard worked-for PhD from an undisclosed "school" are you going to alter your well-known and now world famous monicker from: Capitalist Eric to: Dr. Eric? If so, will you tell us?

In these trying economic times around the world, you could be the replacement personality on Oprah Winfrey's show for that has-been, Dr. Phil.

From you homepage, it's clear you've suffered physical damage. Your posts would indicate that you suffer from depression as a result of the trauma you experienced. As a result, you suffer from low self-esteem.

To compensate, you spend your time here slinging mud at those who express more self-confidence than you. It's a transparent attempt to bring others down to your self-imposed limitations.

Perhaps your time would be better-served, bettering yourself.

It was a conscious decision that I had to make, after my military service. What's stopping you from doing the same?

Oh, BTW... I'm NOT trying to be antagonistic... I'm asking an honest question.

This is very good and I am performing likewise. You are a doctoral candidate correct? Certainly you have publickly declared the same. Since you won't permit me to understand the "school" for admissions requirements and so far all you have listed is that you have a degree or two from several schools, perhaps you can discuss the admissions requiremnets beyond having a degree for the candidacy position. It would help me (and the channel) to further learn how you achieved academic success.

I want you to have the benefit of the doubt as you claimed candidacy without revealing the school that invited you.

1) What scores did you achieve for any testing requirements?
2) What was asked on your resume beyond academics such as real world positions?
3) What kind of questions were asked of you within the formal review board that eventually selected you?
4) What is the actual thesis of subject presentation that you MUST prepare for school board review?

I have so many questions, quite honestly, I can't frame them all this evening BUT you can answer the above in the meanwhile, correct?

You've already admitted you're not interested in such things, so there's no point in doing so.

I want you to have the benefit of the doubt....

Whether you give me "the benefit of the doubt," implies that I need approval- or deference- from you.

I need neither.

Nice try.

Please let me ask another question since you refuse to discuss ANY qualification requirements of and about your candidacy.

What do you want to achieve? Shall you decide a teaching position? A role in government? A private sector adviser? An independent consultant? A researcher?

What do you want to achieve?

I'm working in the private sector, for a large corporation (15000+ employees). I'm the SME in a specialized area, and all trends indicate that this will be on a growth trend for the next 15-20 years.

Once I'm done, I'll start doing consulting work.

When I retire, I'll consider working in academia.

What makes YOU think you aren't being used as a game for top management?

No American can retire anymore. Have you ever considered your own ideas presented on LF?

What makes YOU think you aren't being used as a game for top management?

Sure. And some of them are playing games.... Others are dead serious about getting things right. When I started, I was stuck with game-players. The serious ones are who I'm working with now.

No American can retire anymore. Have you ever considered your own ideas presented on LF?

I knew you would bring up this point. "Retirement," by my definition, is where I'm no longer having to travel and do the hard-core tap dance, to get accounts, and go after large fees... It'll be where I take on the jobs I want, leave the ones I don't, and basically teach, to keep myself busy.

I don't envision a day where I'll ever be sitting on a fishing-boat for a week... I'm driven to stay busy, and so I will... might as well be in something that makes a few bucks. :-P
