Honest answer please.

If abortion is a virtue you should be proud.

LOL. Yeah right.

The same atmospheric conditions that are brining drought to Texas are keeping California's weather mild this summer. I doubt those who are quick to attribute disasters to god's judgment on a people for tolerating gays and abortion will claim that god is now blessing California with good weather.

It's called weather patterns that happen every 7-10 years or so. I lived in Texas for 12 years, we had 2 droughts and 2 rainy years in that period of time and the rest was normal........ Lakes would be down 50' one year because of no rain and be overfull 2 years later because of the rains...... nothing unusual whatsoever....

Tyrant means lone ruler or big boss...

No...

Tyrant:

a : an absolute ruler unrestrained by law or constitution b : a usurper of sovereignty

2 a : a ruler who exercises absolute power oppressively or brutally b : one resembling an oppressive ruler in the harsh use of authority or power

http://www.merriam-webster.com/dictionary/tyrant

Whose sovereignty is God "usurping"? Is God "oppressing" you right now? Since when does a tyrant allow freedom? Or grant mercy or clemency?

In fact the Bible says we should fear God so he is a terrorist - initiator of terror.

I suppose so are Mommy and Daddy "terrorists" - along with spiders and snakes, and the goobermint (for real.)

It is by God's love and mercy that sinners-all have the opportunity (through Free Will) of dwelling in His Kingdom of Paradise forever. IF you insist on doing things your way, I guess like a petulant little child, you'd consider God mean ol' "terrorist."

I guess the flood makes God an eco-terrorists as well....

If you say so, Sybil.

Look at it this way Godwinson. If there truly was a being that created us. And that being is all knowing. If that being is pure good. Then do you think that he might have known something that you don't. Maybe he knew something that you don't and I don't and none of us can comprehend.

You got some of it right.

Sorry Libby...I nailed it. The context of the Sermon on the Mount was that the law existed as an earthly covenant between people that, once followed, established the more important spiritual covenant with God.

And in the end, he established a new law, ironically based on the Beatitudes and "Love thy neighbor..." and a new convenant - born again blah blah blah - anyway...

Then why did Jesus say he didn't come to destroy the law?

Jesus revealed "himself" over time and his purpose on earth. If you recall, the "Messiah" of the Old Testament was one who was going to "save" the Jews by freeing them from all bondage. The working assumption being that Jesus would be a literal warrior. No one expected him to preach that salvation wasn't prisoner to a condition of servitude or freedom. No one expected him to preach that salvation was a function of peace, love and understanding. So yes, obey the laws and the prophets by...BELIEVING IN HIM and his message.

What was the law but God's word? What were the prophets but purveyors of God's will? What was the Messiah? The embodiement of both.

Then why did Jesus say he didn't come to destroy the law?

It was within the context of the Sermon and very early in his ministry. He didn't reveal the full purpose of his presence to his disciples until The Last Supper.

When he was asked "What is the greatest commandment?" He actually cited two. One is similar to the first commandment but tempered slightly. The second is a commandment that cannot be found in Exodous. It is, however, the underpinning of some of the laws in Leviticus, a good portion of which is a social welfare code. Do you know what the commandment was?

I heard sermons preached with the theme that Christ was condensing the 10 commandments into two with His response.

Interesting - "Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind." is a pretty good summation of the 1st five commandments; and "Love your neighbor as yourself" summarizes 6-10.

Yes. But I find the morphology, or condensing as you say, an interesting twist to the question. When Christ finished by stating: "On these two commandments hang all the law and the prophets" [Mt22:40], the whole sense of mortal Christianity is established.

Thinks about it: Love God...Love others...and the last, accept Jesus as Saviour is the whole of it.

I've always found the Book of Matthew to be the most compelling Gospel in terms of what a Christian should be.

Of course, I also believe the risen from the dead stuff to be a bunch of fairy tales. But, IMHO, Matthew gives the clearest course of moral conduct out of any of the Gospels.
