Title: Budget chairman dubious of ‘supercommittee’

Rep. Paul Ryan, chairman of the House Budget Committee, expressed skepticism Sunday morning that the so-called “supercommittee” charged with finding trillions of dollars in debt reduction will accomplish its goal.

“I wouldn’t call it ‘super,’” Mr. Ryan, Wisconsin Republican, said on “Fox News Sunday.”

“I think people are overemphasizing what this committee is going to achieve,” he added.

Rather than reforming entitlement programs such as Medicare and Medicaid and tackling issues such as tax reform, Mr. Ryan said, it’s more likely the committee — formed as part of the debt-ceiling deal passed last week — will instead find another “down payment” on debt reduction, likely in the the range of $1 trillion to $2 trillion.

Despite those reservations, Mr. Ryan said he would serve on the committee if asked by House Speaker John A. Boehner, Ohio Republican. The 12 members must be picked by Aug. 16.

With political and financial leaders still reeling after Standard & Poor’s downgraded the U.S. credit rating on Friday, Mr. Ryan poured cold water on the idea that any committee can change the downward trajectory of the nation’s economy unless President Obama is ousted from the White House.

“Ultimately, I think you need to change the leadership in Washington,” he said.

Can you even make a post about the article on a thread? So far, I see one part of one sentence in this thread where you actually stated anything about the article.

Actually Ryan is showing is 'unconservative' tendencies by indicating he would rather hire it out to his NGO friends, with the potential for a kickback always looming,of course. It's always been Congress's job to do their own dirty work instead of relegating it to entities not answerable to the voting public.

He may be asked, but it'd only as a pacifying binky for conservatives and mere window dressing by the elites. Ryan needs to ridicule this bogus process.

This so-called "Super-Committee" is illegal and its authority illegitimate. ALL 50 states in Congress MUST be represented.

Whatever it is won't be good for we the people, nor legal.

I agree.

Not only 'unconservative', but unconstitutional.

I have never trusted Ryan.

"a pacifying binky"! Hilarious, if it weren't true.

Based on which legislation, deeds or words?

Lol, that's ALL the establishment GOP does with newer/conservative Republicans....OR voters for that matter.

Based on which legislation, deeds or words?

His vote to bailout GM and Chrysler, to make the Patriot Act permanent, his 'unbreakable U.S.-Israel bond', his yes votes on all the free trade alphabet, wealth draining bills, voted NO on requiring FISA warrants for wiretaps in US, NO on reporting illegal aliens who receive hospital treatment, the list is long.

Thanks for the clarification.

I'm now as convinced as you on the level "dis-trust."
