Corrupt Government Title: I’m a Liberal, Obama is Done and it’s about time Well, I don’t really get why people are surprised about this. Myself and a fellow political commentator Cenk Uygar are both not surprised. We’re not surprised by the fact that our government has decided to screw us, and what’s worse, the general public is going to completely ignore this. They will ignore the fact that something that should have been a non-issue turned into a major clusterfuck because of opportunistic and hostage negotiating Republicans and then we have a President who is the worst negotiator in the history of negotiations. It is a crime what has happened, and what’s more, the American people are going to pay because of it. Really, this shouldn’t have been an issue at all. The debt ceiling was always just business as usual. A lot of people who don’t like that will complain, but it has been this way for years. Nothing should have changed now, but it did, and you know why? Because the Republicans decided that they would use this as another way of getting their way, of getting a President with absolutely ZERO backbone and ZERO balls to do their bidding. Somebody or other on YouTube said “the only change Obama brought us is when he went from Democrat to Republican.†And that is exactly what has happened here. This deal, this debt ceiling deal, is nothing but a spit in the face of all liberals and those who are liberal and consider themselves progressive, like me. It is a spit in how things work, it is a disaster for the economy, it is blindly ignorant of how things work when the economy is in a downturn, and what’s more, this country is going to slip into another recession and the people we have to blame are those in Congress, and a President who no longer works in the best interest of his country. So, here is a breakdown of the new debt ceiling deal – there are going to be NO increases in revenue, whatsoever. There will be $1 trillion in spending cuts right now with more to come with the new “Super-Congress.†Yes, the Super Congress, the stupidest pointless bogus bullshit concept that ever was hatched in this country. It will be comprised of 12 people who will sit on it and will haggle over where to cut spending in the future. Yeah, let’s not talk about increasing revenue, which means increasing taxes, the Republicans might get upset. And when they bark, Obama listens. This deal does absolutely nothing to help the economy, as reported in The LA Times article about this debt deal. And what’s more, it ignores how economics work in favor of what I call “Hopeful and happy economics.†It is where people forget how the economy works and hope it works out anyway. It used to be that the Parties were fairly consistent in what they wanted. The Republicans were all about decreasing taxes and decreasing spending, the the Democrats were about increasing taxes and increasing spending, mostly to help entitlement programs. But now we have this new and really stupid paradigm in the Republican Party – decreasing taxes and increasing spending. We got to see Bush use it during his time in office to fund two wars which were totally pointless. Now we get to see the culmination of this stupidity in this deal. Immediately cutting $1 trillion in spending. Look, I realize we have a spending problem, but here is the problem on top of that problem – we are in a recession! Or if it isn’t a recession, it is most surely economic downturn. Economists are seeing even less pleasing numbers from the latest fiscal reports than from the ones in April. Things aren’t looking good. So we do have a spending problem, but when the economy is in a downturn, money has to be spent. And when the middle class can’t spend, and the wealthy and corporate won’t spend, the only thing that can throw more money into the gaping mouth of Wall Street is the government! I’m sorry, but that’s how it works. When the economy is shit, you spend money, you invest. Or, if you really wanted to generate billions of dollars for the economy, legalize pot! What makes this whole affront to all things good is that this spineless President and his staff think they won! They think they won?! Are you kidding me?! Even Speaker Boehner (R-Ohio) realizes that the Republican are the ones who really won. They got everything they ask for, didn’t have to give up shit, and now the President is taking a victory lap? I am starting to wonder how stupid this jackass actually believes the American public to be. Ignorant, I am right there with you, Obama, but stupid, no. Even the big mainstream pundits on the liberal side of things are calling this for what it is. Here’s a quote from Keith Olbermann from a Special Comment about this last night - Either way it is a signal moment in our history, in which both parties have agreed and codified that the political structure of this nation shall now be based entirely on hypocrisy and political self-perpetuation.†This whole affair is a joke, and the thing that is genuinely pissing me off right now is that the Democrats actually believe this is a victory. I don’t get how a single Democrat can stand by this farce and call it anything more than what it actually is – bullshit. It is a bullshit “deal†that was written and will be signed into law to cover Obama’s ass because he didn’t want to have to deal with this himself. I am starting to think that this asshole only wanted to be a one-term President. He made this deal so he could have the next guy who comes into office have to fix this giant gaping mistake and have the handle the fact that by this time in 2013, things in this nation will go to shit! Obama, I am done supporting you. I will tell as many liberals as I can not to support you. You now have nothing you can possibly run on. What will you run on? Your watered-down healthcare bill? Your Economic Reform Bill that everybody sees as a joke? The Immigration Reform bill that NEVER happened?! Or maybe you will run on this, saying how it was “compromise.†President Obama, you are a spineless worm who didn’t stand up for your principles, you campaign promises, or even the American people. You are ignoring the rules of economics and putting on a happy face. You talk about everybody putting things on the table, well here’s a question – what the fuck did Republicans put on the table?! What did they lose?! You arrogant and egotistical little bitch! You are the Republicans bitch because every single time they take the American people hostage, you talk about “compromise,†whilst giving them everything they could possibly desire, and even more (Remember the Bush Tax Cuts extension, you little toad?!). I am done supporting you. I will actively work to sabotage you. I want you to lose. Whatever Republican replaces you and drives us into the ground, well, at least then I will know it was them who did it, instead of knowing it was you, somebody who was supposed to stand with us, with the American people, with the party who actually is willing to talk, instead of the childish Republicans who would let this economy burn to the ground before letting any real change happen. I did. It's an illustrative article, and welcome to LP. Now to comment the substance: I for one do not understand the impatience of the Left. They will whine, for instance, that Obama "gave up" on single payer in his disasterous Obamacare takeover. Do they not see that in time we WILL have single payer? It takes time to destroy an entire health care insurance industry - even a dedicated Leftist like Obama cannot do it just by snapping his fingers. But rest assured - he's working on it. Regulation by regulation, the HC insurance industry is dying a death by a thousand cuts. And single payer Obamacare will be there to pick up the pieces.
