The debate over raising the debt ceiling, which brought the nation to the brink of default, has sent disapproval of Congress to its highest level on record and left most Americans saying that creating jobs should now take priority over cutting spending, according to the latest New York Times/CBS News Poll.

A record 82 percent of Americans now disapprove of the way Congress is handling its job — the most since The Times first began asking the question in 1977, and even more than after another political stalemate led to a shutdown of the federal government in 1995.

The Republicans compromised too little, a majority of those polled said. All told, 72 percent disapproved of the way Republicans in Congress handled the negotiations, while 66 percent disapproved of the way Democrats in Congress handled negotiations.

The public was more evenly divided about how Mr. Obama handled the debt ceiling negotiations: 47 percent disapproved and 46 percent approved.

You can count on D's and R's to do the wrong thing. The sheeple love corrupt politicians who serve the interests of global corporations and banksters.

We love big spenders.

That's why we have a representative republic, with the established boundaries set by the Constitution.

Since 90% of the population do not control any resources in America this nation is an oligarchy rather than a republic.

With the economy still in the dumper -- maybe permanently? -- and full-time jobs becoming as scarce as rain during a drought, huge percentages of Americans have had their (misplaced) faith in the American dream shaken, the upper-middle-class consumerist lifestyle is exposed as a mirage for anybody who plays by the rules. Capitalism and the America that embraced it as a way of life is now and forever more a failure. It does me good to know that the generation that voted in Reagan and his ideology will see their America die from that ideology before their very own eyes and knowing they had a hand in its destruction.

Mine's Mike Thompson and in my area if you aren't grape growers you don't exist.

This has nothing to do with this thread, but as I drive around California it worries me seeing how much agricultural land has been given over to grape growers. If we get any kind of grape parasite or fungus here this entire industry is going to be in the tank.

Maybe I'm wrong since it hasn't happened yet, but when I see mile upon mile of grape vines with no other crop acting as a buffer zone it bothers me.

You complain, not because I fail to show "decency," but because I fail to show you the respect you seem to think you automatically deserve.

I treat you with the contempt and scorn that you really deserve, and I don't hide it.

You're a contemptible, odious little parasite. You seem to think that because the government has stolen your retirement money, you can steal my money.

Oh, sure... you don't want to be a "burden" to your family... but you have absolutely NO qualms about being a burden to MY family, DO you?

If it means that my kids have to starve, so you can sit on your fat ass, eating twinkies, that's perfectly alright with you.

You are the ultimate parasite, and I treat you in the exact manner you TRULY deserve.
