Title: LaHood Blames His Former GOP Colleagues For FAA Impasse

Transportation Secretary Ray LaHood on Wednesday blamed "one or two people who wouldn't compromise" for the impasse in Congress that has led to a partial shutdown of the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA).

LaHood, a Republican who served in the House, called in to C-SPAN's "Washington Journal" show to rip Congress for not passing an FAA reauthorization bill before recessing for the summer. LaHood did not specify the one or two people he was talking about, but praised Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-Nev.) for putting aside his state and ego to resolve the stalemate. He said Reid was willing to move a House-passed bill through the Senate even though it would have cut funding for an airport in Nevada.

Reid "stood tall," LaHood said.

Throughout the interview, LaHood pointed the finger at Republicans for being "stubborn," saying the failure of Congress has led to the loss of 4,000 jobs at FAA and 70,000 construction employees to stop working.

Asked if there is any chance that there could be a breakthrough before next month, an exasperated LaHood said, "The answer is no." He explained that an act of Congress is needed, adding that unanimous consent would be required in the House and Senate. Speaker John Boehner (R-Ohio) has indicated he won't let that happen, LaHood claimed.

However, a spokesman for Boehner said Wednesday said the problem was the Democratically-controlled Senate.

“The only reason 80,000 jobs are at stake is that Senate Democratic Leaders chose to play politics rather than keep their word and pass the House bill," Boehner spokesman Michael Steel said in a statement. "That’s indefensible, and they should end this crisis immediately.”

LaHood suggested he will be spending August criticizing Congress in the hopes that the situation will be quickly resolved when lawmakers return in September.

He repeatedly mocked legislators for going on "their vacation" and not adhering to their own rhetoric on jobs.

While pointing out that Sen. Tom Coburn (R-Okla.) and other Senate Republicans objected to an unanimous consent request on the FAA bill Tuesday, LaHood praised Sen. Kay Bailey Hutchison (R-Texas) for her work on the measure. Subscribe to *Tea Party On Parade*

Way to go Pubbies! If it's bad for America/Obama then it's good for the GOP - or so their thinking goes.

I think I can safely say that such a thing will never happen, even if we have to sell off every National Park and a couple of states to keep the military afloat. There's far too much graft money to be made by the big people for that to ever happen.

But let's fire everybody else who's in a union or works for the government. That will do wonders for the recovery.

The private sector doesn't seem to have the jobs to offer.

Not with American business, manufacturing, and industry moving the China to compete in the "World Economy" because of NAFTA and giving the slave-labor ChiComs "Most Favored Nation" trade status....

Oh...And 0bama's Administration for SOME reason has a fetish for destroying the US domestic coal/oil industries, undermining small business, and totally annihilated the confidence of American business to expand or even start.

But have no fear - the "job growth" in the US continues to be FEDGOV DRONE jobs. Despite the paring down of this drop in the bucket.

I'm putting you in charge of a special Congressional Blue Ribbon panel. Now you're talking.

Goob drones should not and can not be Unionized. Let's face it - Union drones' jobs are protected - despite mediocrity and low-quality work in too many cases.

As to other Unions, well we've seen what a fine job the United Auto Workers has done since the 70s to the American car industry quality...not to mention bankruptcies. Why must WE THE PEOPLE be coerced into buying stock in Union-controlled car companies?? Since when should goob buy private companies loke some kind of....socialist country? Oh, that's right - because the Dem Congress and Dem Prez said so.

And then there are the Dem-thugs at SEIU.

Oh...And 0bama's Administration for SOME reason has a fetish for destroying the US domestic coal/oil industries, undermining small business, and totally annihilated the confidence of American business to expand or even start.

Something that has interested me for some time is recessions during a Republican administration is a business cycle thing while a downturn during a Democrat administration is the result of that president's policy.

Recessions and depressions are a feature of capitalism, don't believe me - then check out the record through the 19th century. The golden age of the free market was only golden for a few at the top.

That was his promise - even during his campaign, so no one should be surprised that we're being cratered.

As to other Unions, well we've seen what a fine job the United Auto Workers has done since the 70s to the American car industry quality...

The NUMMI plant experiment proved that American union workers can produce a quality product and make a profit in the US using Japanese management theory.

Actually Japanese manufacturing adopted a management theory developed by an American.
