Sen. Joe Lieberman (I-CT) announced on the Senate floor Tuesday that he was working on a bipartisan proposal to reform Social Security. He said reforming entitlement programs like Social Security was necessary to prevent cuts to the defense budget.
Bottom line, we cant protect these entitlements and also have the national defense we need to protect us in a dangerous world, while were at war with Islamist extremists who attacked us on 9/11 and will be for a long time to come, he said.
Lieberman and Sen. Tom Coburn (R-OK) previously introduced legislation that would have gradually moved the eligibility age for Social Security up by two years.
