Title: The Tea Party: Same Old Authoritarian Conservatives With a New Label

The debt-ceiling debate, better described as an extortion ploy by the Tea Party-controlled Republicans of the U.S House of Representatives, has raised a question: Who, exactly, are these largely anonymous troublemakers? When I did a little digging, I realized that I know these people all too well. Indeed, I had actually written about them before they morphed into their current form. They are, in fact, both old and new authoritarian conservatives.

These authoritarians are a notoriously nasty crew. If you have not noticed, they are delighted with what is happening in Washington, the chaos they have created. Actually, they are thrilled that they have been able to turn the Nation’s Capital upside down, as they actively work to screw up federal government in the hope of literally destroying it.

If you look closely, it is obvious that most of these Tea Party people have no real idea about the potential consequences of their actions, and they do not care to inform themselves. These are people who will pick a fight for the sake of picking a fight, refusing to compromise about anything that conflicts with their collective agenda, just because that feels to them like the right thing to do.

Why are you a collectivist that believes that people who earn money don't deserve the fruits of their labor.

Why are you a deadbeat who believes that people shouldn't pay their debts?

Education is a state issue not federal.

This is the only industrialized nation on the planet without a coherent national education policy. If we asked you for one, it would be pledge and prayer...repeat as necessary.

Education is a state issue not federal. Do you acknowledge that? Or do you support usurpers?

If the federal government continues to reduce the money it sends to the sates, the states will have less money to go around. For instance, taxes in Texas account for only 43% of state receipts, the federal government supplies 37%.

Why are you complaining about college debt? You are in love with debt.

I'm not complaining, I'm stating a reality that is the less money the state has, the less money it has to spend on education; the difference in higher education is made up in higher tuition, and fewer grants. The result is that fewer of "our" kids go to college, or more kids start their adult life with high debt to pay off. If you give a damn about "our" kids, then you should give a damn about that.

If we don't change that, we will either be left behind, or need to rely on immigrants educated by their home countries to do our doctoring, research, engineering, and all that other stuff that once made us great.

That isn't an answer to the question. That is spin for higher taxes.

Does the federal government have a constitutional role in education. Yes or no will suffice.

Hmm. Only the richest nation has that. Interesting.

So does the federal government have a constitutional role in education? Be honest please.

What would be the lawful way for the feds to have a role in education? The constitution provides a legal means for the feds to be involved in education. Ever heard of a constitutional amendment? Apparently the people don't want that or they would have amended the constitution.

From your words it is obvious the you support usurping the constitution if it fits your agenda.

But I will ask you this. Is is your position that education is getting better? That our schools improving and turning out smarter people? That has to be your position if I am wrong.

I went to school when California's school system was world class. The quality of education in the state is now mixed. Schools in wealthier districts are partly funded by private foundations established for the benefit of a specific school. You could say that those schools are semi-privatized. Schools in less wealthy communities have to get by on what they receive from the state.

What that means is some students in public schools get an excellent education while others do not.

"Smarter" is a function of genetics.

The powers that the feds have are enumerated.

Liar. There are different powers within the framework of the USCON:

Enumerated or explicit.

Reserved.

Concurrent.

Implied.

Show me where a Department of Defense is enumerated. IN fact, within the Framing, there was no Department of Defense. It was created by the US Congress.

The "meaning" of the USCON is found in its Preamble which states, among other things, TO PROMOTE THE GENERAL WELFARE...the education of the citizens is most certainly within that...

Also within the body of the USCON is this: He shall have Power, by and with the Advice and Consent of the Senate, to make Treaties, provided two thirds of the Senators present concur; and he shall nominate, and by and with the Advice and Consent of the Senate, shall appoint Ambassadors, other public Ministers and Consuls, Judges of the supreme Court, and all other Officers of the United States, whose Appointments are not herein otherwise provided for, and which shall be established by Law...

--op cit Article II Section 2[b]

The USCON states quite explcitly that not all departments and public officials are "enumerated" within its corpus. It further states that such departments and public officials SHALL BE ESTABLISHED BY LAW. The Framers left it to subsequent generations to decide and determine WHAT departments might be necessary and what public officials would be needed to administer to them.

By EXPLICITLY putting this power in the hands of the US Congress, the Framers understood that such creation would be debated and decided at the NATIONAL level for the common weal of the NATION.
