ouse Speaker John Boehner (R-Ohio) told Republican lawmakers Thursday he does not yet have the votes to pass his debt-limit bill. Though members emerged from a closed-door meeting saying they believe the Speaker will secure the 217 he needs by Thursday evening, when the House is set to vote, Boehner will still need to convince dozens of undecided members to back his measure. “We don’t have the votes, but we’re getting there,” Boehner said in the meeting, according to Rep. Peter King (N.Y.) and other Republicans in the room. King said Boehner was “very low-key” a day after he rallied his troops with the exhortation, “Get your ass in line.”

they are expected to vote around 6 PM tonight. At this point there aren't a huge amount of differences between the Reid plan the Boehner plan so there's a decent chance of some sort of compromise being worked out over the weekend. Of course the Teahadists could still torpedo the whole thing and send us into default.

I wonder how this will make the GOP look to the Wall Street crowd? I know they were flirting with the GOP after Obama verbally chastised them a few months a go (but not much else beyond weak oversight legislations). But now I am guessing they are starting to see the GOP as a party of pitchfork and torch wielding crazies who are bad for stability and business. The Wall Street Journal calling the Tea Party 'crazy, liars, hobbits" is one clue towards the Wall Street attitude towards the GOP.

the hill reporting that it will be very close, somewhere around 60 Republicans are expected to vote no. I expect they are working the vote to give as many Republicans as possible the opportunity to vote no but still have it pass - exactly what the Democrats did with Clinton's budget in 1993.
