Speaker John Boehners (R-Ohio) debt-ceiling proposal would cut only $6 billion in discretionary spending for 2012, a figure that could cost him the support of conservatives who want larger reductions. Boehner is meeting with his members Tuesday morning to try to convince the majority of his conference to back his plan when it comes to the floor Wednesday. He would need the support of at least 218 Republicans to pass the plan without any Democratic votes.
