A few of us have talked about how computer professionals are starting to see more work lately.

There is clearly pent-up demand for computer services now, regardless of the overall shape of the economy and looming "debt crisis".

In the last week my tiny little company:

Signed a big deal with one of the largest mobile handset manufacturers in the world. We are starting next Monday, and I have to be in Taiwan the week of Aug 15th.

We have been invited to propose on a project for one of the most preeminent management consulting firms in the world. We don't have any background with them, so we'll see how it goes. It's just amazing that we somehow got on their vendor list and they contacted us.

I posted an add on the Seattle 2.0 website (for Seattle startups) last year. I got my first call from that channel 3 hours ago and I am meeting with the CEO of a very interesting startup company Wednesday morning.

This is just what's happened since last Wednesday.

Things are a lot better than they have been since 2007. A lot better.

My wife's home day care center is booming too. She's not quite full yet, but she's close and getting several calls a week. Last year, she struggled to get more than a handful of students.

I've been in the technology business for 20+ years. In every downturn, IT consulting is the best place to be when the recovery starts. Companies have a need, but they don't want to hire. I'm pretty sure that's where we are now.

Good times for me.

Good to hear...

Thank you. I'm actually having a quick beer to celibate at the Rock Bottom now. My family is on the way to join me.

Seriously, things have been going pretty well since the spring, but all of a sudden things are on fire.

It feels like 2002/2003 after the internet bubble crash.

How does this success square with your belief that Obama has destroyed the economy? Surely you aren't now suggesting that there is a recovery now are you?

There is definitively a recovery in IT services -- since the spring and building slowly. In the last month, booming. Not just my business, but other IT services businesses where I know people as well. No doubt about it. It seems like a typically recovery over the last 20 years, where IT services leads the way.

IT services always recovers faster than the general economy. This doesn't mean that it won't all come crashing down before the larger recovery occurs. We'll see. But right now, I do see it. BIG TIME. I'm happy.

Just make sure the inclusion of and about the contract negotiations wherein you won't help sponsor donut shops and invite their relatives over for working within your companies premises. That could look ugly with chinks rolling out of cots to serve donuts and tea.... not coffee.

Thanks for the tip.

I've been to 26 countries. In Asia, I've been to Japan (25+ times), Singapore (10+ times), Hong Kong (twice), The Philippines (3 times), and mainland China.

I've been in the Taipei airport, but I've never done business in Taiwan, so I'm looking forward to looking around the city.

In Tokyo, there is a Starbucks on just about every major street corner. Its good for coffee addicted Seattleites like me. I just drink strong black coffee.

I have been to Taiwan twice on business. Both times were excellent. You should have a good time because in all cases, the locals are generous and many speak English to help in translations. Since you are invited by a corporation, you will have an escort to help you at all times during the business day; don't be afraid to ask about things to see; they want to establish a clear path of communications and are very pleased to help in all ways.

Most hotels (3+) serve breakfast based on your requirements and you can even go to buffets. But watch out for the open markets. I recommend that you don't buy anything however go to see the action in the evening. Some really fun stuff to see.

Similar to yourself, I have traveled the work over (many times) and can say one thing to you: be very aware of using illegal narcotics there. It is an automatic death sentence. I was surprised to to have the landing plane announcements suggest this each time I was there.

No other nation has these strict laws that I know of.

Congratulations on scoring such good business.

Now you probably need to buy some nice batch made six sack concrete, and maybe some nice custom cut Alaska Yellow Cedar!

There's still plenty of time to build that gazebo/greenhouse/cabin/addition you've been hoping for.

Afterall you have to live where you live right?

LOL!

Our batch plant closed after less than five weeks this summer.

There simply was no business.

ZERO.

Not so LOL.

It's good to see someone above water.

Don't let the little failed man child messiah "king" obammy know about your good news.

He's trying as hard as he can to stop you, as well as the rest of us, from making a decent living.

There is a saying in Spanish that, "there is no trouble that lasts 500 years".

If we kick this obama creep to the curb in NOVEMBER.

We can ALL get well.

Terrazzo! did I mention that poured in place terrazzo floors are beautiful, durable and affordable, AND unique?

Heck you'll see alot of terrazzo in Taipei if you pay attention.

A lot of Asian countries are the same.

The back of the landing card for Singapore has big red letters that mentions mandatory "death by hanging" for smuggling drugs.

Yeah, people are not spending money on their homes.

I was completely under water in 2009 and mostly under water in 2010.

I've been in 3 big downturns in my career. When IT services picks up, it's a leading indicator that something is happening in the economy. Everyone I know in the IT services business is seeing a lot of opportunity right now for the first time in 2 or 3 years.

we had a fantastic 2010, best year in our company's history (we're in IT consulting as well - providing services to businesses, not government).

This year has been good as well, but down a hair from last year. Still, we've increased our staff by 25% since last October and are now back to where we were at peak in 2007.

I will tell you though that we are all sitting on the edge of our seat over the debt ceiling debate, if there is no deal by August 2nd we'll probably furlough everyone we've hired in the last year.

Yeah, people are not spending money on their homes.

Around here, DIY remodels are trending DOWNWARDS.

Ordinary Americans NEED whatever cash that they have to pay now for daily living expenses, which are ALL up since this Stalinist monster was 'elected".

There is ZERO cash floating around in people's, (who have NOTHING to do with any gooberment pay outs), current budgets.

The feral gooberment et. al. have sucked the money out of the non-goobermental economy.

There is no normal "out of hand" or " self aggregated" funds available to the ordinary people for materials or services even for their own homes.

It's been getting worse since the little failed man child messiah "king" obammy was immaculated.

I couldn't DARE speak to the increase in materials costs in the last twenty years and how much of that increase is a DIRECT result of goobermental interference such as insane TAXES.

As far as building goes, we ARE and we HAVE BEEN in a depression for the last couple of years and it's getting worse.

This economy is being sacked and looted.

ALL of these goobermental lifer assholes have to GO.

When one route towards your destination turns out to be wrong, you try another route.

Nonetheless, I remain VERY happy for both you and goat69's success in your business.

We'll be OK. We are ALWAYS OK. We've been hungry etc. and cold etc. before, we know how to deal with such things.

But, I sure do worry about how most less independent people are being hurt now.

Still ... trouble and challenges ALWAYS means opportunities.

IF we can get the gooberment out of the way and off of OUR backs.

Then; WE ALL will be doing what WE do!

Spoiled, stupid and ignorant, brain dead phuckwads, libTURD fools, tools, and idiots, are the real sickness; the messiah "king" obammy and his regime are only the symptoms.
