U.S. stock futures fell, indicating the Standard & Poor’s 500 Index will drop after rallying within 1.4 percent of a three-year high, as President Barack Obama and Congress failed to reach an agreement on raising the federal debt limit, intensifying concern the nation will default. S&P 500 futures expiring in September declined 0.9 percent to 1,328.80 at 9:29 a.m. in Tokyo. Dow Jones Industrial Average futures lost 111 points, or 0.9 percent, to 12,510.

Really? Since when did he spend money Congress didn't appropriate? You really have to stop buying into the GOP spin, there's absolutely no need for this debt crisis. Congress appropriated more spending then the nation could afford, and now it's telling the President that it is his fault. The Congress ought to simply raise the limit then try to cut spending through this fall's budget process, an approach that wouldn't cause any financial crisis.

Republicans have rejected Reid's newest proposal - $2.7 trillion in spending cuts and no new revenues - because it doesn't cut medicare. They can't say "yes."

Obama has proposed $4 trillion in deficit reduction, which is what the various ratings agencies say is necessary to avoid downgrading of US debt. Boehner's latest plan, on the other hand, is approximately $2.2 trillion in deficit reduction. If the GOP is serious about deficit reduction, it will support the Obama plan.
