Yep. I do have to admit that Boehner and the House Republicans are holding up better than I thought they would.
Contrast this with the castrated GOP cowards in the Senate who propose to give Obama carte blanche to run up $2.5 trillion more in debt in the hopes that the voters will blame him for digging us deeper into a hole.
To preserve our independence, we must not let our rulers load us with perpetual debt. We must make our election between economy and liberty, or profusion and servitude. Thomas Jefferson

You act as though there isn't some kind of unofficial set of agreements/policies and procedures that occur between within the same political parties that run between the two houses of Congress.

Boehner contradicted himself twice in about 12 minutes today - saying that both they were never close to a deal and that they were close to a deal and after saying Obama wasn't trustworthy because he "moved the goalposts" he said he trusts Obama.
If you like this sort of flip-flopping you must love Mitt Romney.

You seem to have little understand of the budget/appropriations process. The reason Obama is asking for the debt ceiling to be raised is because Congress, with a House of Representatives in Republican hands since January of 2011, APPROPRIATED more spending then the country can afford without borrowing. The correct course of action here to avoid default is for Congress to raise the debt ceiling, then tackle spending during the fall budget fight.

As of tonight there isn't. The GOP is seemingly prepared to crash the U.S. economy come Monday when markets open.

I really haven't been following this at all, but why do you think it'll be mess when markets open on Monday? Do investors and whoever really think the worthless government dufus's won't do what has to be done by the deadline?

up until now most rational and sane people have assumed that something will get done to raise the debt ceiling before 8/2. Those assumptions flew out the window tonight. Unless a deal is struck by Sunday, Monday is going to be a rough day.
Obama was specifically asked what he would tell markets to calm them on Monday and assure them that a deal would get done, he didn't have an answer.
There are a great many people in the tea party who think that a default is no big deal and would actually be preferable to raising the debt limit, I fear they've handcuffed the GOP and are walking them, and the nation, over a cliff. I can tell you that we'll lay off about half our workforce in the 2nd week of August if there is a default. Not because we deal directly with the government, but because many of our clients do - and they will all slam the breaks on spending as they did in late 2008.

This is complete nonsense. Both major US political parties have been playing around for years with their wars, allegiance to Israel and their lack of attention to detail on the economics and infra-structure of America.
The Democrat AND Republican political Parties need to redress what their responsibilities are to the nation; both are responsible for the past leading to the present situations confronting ALL of us.
He's [go65] really worried he wont get his welfare check.
I am calling in Moderator X to ban your nasty ass, Stone.
You have played wayyyyy tooo looonng at the throttle of despicable behaviour. You are running off good posters without any serious debate or factual information. You have allowed yourself to succumb to the depths of deplorable despair as Gatlin, yukon, harrowup and all the others representing atrocious manners from LP.

It is common courtesy to ping those you disparage and frankly you should recognize that Stone has given you tremendous freedoms you routinely debase.
Boehner didn't close out the discussions. Obama upped the ante.
Cut spending. Cut White House travel and entertainment. Cut White House staff.
What specifically did he say. Sometimes you don't understand what is said or you twist stuff. So tell us specifically what the contradiction was.
Read the below from his news conference and see if you can parse it - then compare with his statements that there was no deal:
-----
"We had an agreement on a revenue number -- a revenue number that we thought we could reach based on a flatter tax code with lower rates and a broader base that would produce more economic growth, more employees and more taxpayers, and a tax system that was more efficient in collecting the taxes that were due the federal government, There was an agreement on some additional revenues until [Thursday] when the president demanded $400 billion more, which was going to be nothing more than a tax increase on the American people, and I can tell you that Leader Cantor and I were very disappointed in this call for higher revenue.
The extra $400 billion would have had to come from increasing taxes on the very people that we expect to invest in our economy and to create jobs, I gave the presidents proposal serious consideration, but lets understand something: there was an agreement with the White House at $800 billion in revenue. Its the president who walked away from his agreement and demanded more money at the last minute.
He says in the same statement that there was an agreement for $400 billion in revenues, and $800 billion in revenues. And he's repeatedly said that there was no agreement.
I don't think that was a very faire statement, Fred. I hear "harrowup" is an EXPERT with goats as he is out back in the hay fields with the goats most of his daylight time enjoying some of the sexual pleasures of life living on the farm.
Oh .. you are just PISSED to the Maximilianus that some good posters like, "We The People" remain on LP to kick your ass. You were a wimp posting to "We The People" today.
He says in the same statement that there was an agreement for $400 billion in revenues, and $800 billion in revenues. And he's repeatedly said that there was no agreement.
He doesn't say there is an agreement for 400 billion in revenues.
The 400 billion mentioned was the additional that he says Obama wanted. I think you just got mixed up. That is how I see it.
So why are you here chit-chatting with me on LF as opposed to the glorious confines of LP where you can share one-liners with "yukon" all day and night to gain insightful meanings about the world and politics around us?
#44. To: buckeroo, Fred Mertz, A K A Stone, We The People, war, calcon (#39)
Why is it that the same posters, buckeroo, Fred Mertz, war, calcon, liberator and We The People get the idea at every, absolutely every forum they infest that they are in charge and the webhost is a fool? JR, Goldi, Stone, Christine.
All except Robin.
Do you all work for Robin or Charlie Chan's #3 idiot son, noluck?
LF, LP, FR, F4um would all be saner safer and more civil without any of you around.
