MSNBC's Contessa Brewer, you may remember just yesterday said the attack on Rupert Murdoch at a hearing encapsulated what the British were feeling.

Today, Contessa "educated" a conservative Representative that without the bailout, the country would be in "a depression." Rep. Mo Brooks (R-AL) said he disagreed which prompted the MSNBC host to ask him if he had a degree in economics.

"Yes ma'am, I do. Highest honors," Rep. Brooks responded.

According to his Congressional page: "Mo graduated from Duke University in three years with a double major in political science and economics, with highest honors in economics. In 1978, he graduated from the University of Alabama Law School."

Actually Mo Brooks does not have a “degree in economics.” What he has is a BA from Duke. He may have majored in economics, which means he took a few undergraduate courses or maybe even a few graduate courses in economics, but that is not the same thing as getting an MA or a PhD in the topic. It certainly doesn’t make him an economist. The loony ideas he was expressing today would suggest otherwise

You obviously don't know what a "degree" is. Loser.

Getting a Bachelor's degree in biology does not make you a medical doctor and getting a Bachelor's degree in business administration or finance/accounting does not make you an "economist". But I guess for someone out of Alabama that is close enough for govt work.

He never said he was an economist. He said that he had a degree in economics.

You just can't comprehend what you read.

Again, I could write a computer program that could hold more intelligent conversations than we have with you.

There is no degree in economics at an undergrad level. He has a Bachelor's of Arts / Science degree.

Wrong again, Bozo. Here is one right here:

Bsc Economics from the London School of Economics

You are always wrong about everything. Always.

Thanks to Capitalist Eric and harrowup for pointing out that they are undergraduate degrees in economics.

The London School of Economics is not the USA Duke U. degree program. You guys do know England is not a state in America, right?

I can imagine you kooks Googling the terms trying to find something to back up your guy's lie the way you kooks tried to back up Palin's statement about Paul Revere and the best you can come up with in your Google search was a British school in which the said congressman did not attend.

Dorko, no one ever mentioned Duke University.

The Congressman said that he had a degree in economics and you denied that there are undergraduate degrees in economics.

Regardless, if you have an B.S. and majored in economics, it is considered an economics degree. Here how you would write it on your resume: B.S. Economics. I have a B.S. in Computer Science. Here's how it looks on my resume: B.S. Computer Science.

You are the most frustrating little shit I've ever encountered on my 52 years on this planet. So go F yourself, bozo.

From Duke U. and there is no such degree.

A B.S. with a major in economics is an economics degree. Here's how you'd write it on your resume: B.S. Economics.

I realize that you are too stupid to understand this. So, the stupid conversation is over.

From a poster who can't even define or locate one of those 'free market's you are always blabbing about I find this hilarious.

A Bachelor of Science degree in Economics program focuses careers in business management, the public sector, academics, and the professions. A B.S. degree majoring in economics is especially appropriate for students intending to pursue advanced degrees in the social sciences and in professional schools of management, law, and public administration, thusly, a B.S. in economics is a glorified "store manager' diploma. It is not an economics degree and does not make you an "economist".

Working as an economist makes one an economist, otherwise one is merely trained.

Contessa Brewer asked Rep. Mo Brooks: “If he had a degree in economics?”

Rep. Mo Brooks replied: "Yes ma'am, I do. Highest honors."

Had she asked him: “Are you an economist,” would it have been proper (according to your categorization) for him to reply: “Ma’am, I’m a trained economist?”

It would probably be correct to say he had some background in economics.

It would probably be correct to say he had some background in economics.

He wasn’t asked that, nor was he asked to amplify or qualify his answer.

He gave a direct answer to a direct question.

Contessa Brewer asked Rep. Mo Brooks: “If he had a degree in economics?”

Rep. Mo Brooks replied: "Yes ma'am, I do. Highest honors."

Rep. Mo Brooks never said the he is an economist. He was never asked if he were an economist. He was asked a direct question by Contessa Brewer … he respond with a direct answer!

Contessa Brewer asked Rep. Mo Brooks: “If he had a degree in economics?”
Rep. Mo Brooks replied: "Yes ma'am, I do. Highest honors."

Samuel "Joe the Plumber" Wurzelbacher was never asked: Are you a licensed plumber.

The success with analogies comes from the skill of identifying the necessary, logical relationship between the given words. the relationship must be logical. In other words, it must make sense. You wouldn’t have a pair of words like “economist” and “plumber” together.

Sorry, but your analogy was not logical, it did not make sense. Maybe you should have tried this one:

Rep. Mo Brooks is not an economist the way Barack Obama is the President of the USA.
