MSNBC's Contessa Brewer, you may remember just yesterday said the attack on Rupert Murdoch at a hearing encapsulated what the British were feeling.

Today, Contessa "educated" a conservative Representative that without the bailout, the country would be in "a depression." Rep. Mo Brooks (R-AL) said he disagreed which prompted the MSNBC host to ask him if he had a degree in economics.

"Yes ma'am, I do. Highest honors," Rep. Brooks responded.

According to his Congressional page: "Mo graduated from Duke University in three years with a double major in political science and economics, with highest honors in economics. In 1978, he graduated from the University of Alabama Law School."

Law and Other Professions

The economics major is one of many common paths to law school. The Law School Admission Council provides the official guide to law schools for the American Bar Association. The Guide emphasizes extensive reading and library research, skill in synthesizing large amounts of information, and logical thinking. In addition to general skills, the Guide points to breadth of knowledge of history, politics, finance, human behavior, and diverse cultures.

Working as an economist makes one an economist, otherwise one is merely trained.

Contessa Brewer asked Rep. Mo Brooks: “If he had a degree in economics?”

Rep. Mo Brooks replied: "Yes ma'am, I do. Highest honors."

Had she asked him: “Are you an economist,” would it have been proper (according to your categorization) for him to reply: “Ma’am, I’m a trained economist?”

Quoting from the article:

It would probably be correct to say he had some background in economics.

The congressman is not a an economist the way Joe the plumber is not a licensed plumber.

A couple of points here for Godwinson and lucysmom and any other Democrat 'progressives'.

First, the congress critter didn't say he was an economist. He said he had a degree which has been established he can say without contradiction except by people like you who give us living breathing Democrats a very bad reputation for being insulting, condescending, arrogant, self- appointed 'experts'.

Second, I have several 'degrees' not one of which actually describes my 'occupation'...and in spite of having attended the LSE as is common for those of us fortunate enough to have served our country abroad, I know I know less about economics than the congressman displayed in his dialogue with Ms. Brewster.

Third, you two have an awful reputation for failing to respond to legitimate inquiries when your statements are clearly out of line and once again bring my side of the left/right divide into disrepute.

Fourth, it is too hot and uncomfortable to spend too much time beating down a dead ringer for an insipid twit, so go off somewhere to sulk and remove the temptation.

P.S. Direct me to Mz. Brewster's cv if you will.

The success with analogies comes from the skill of identifying the necessary, logical relationship between the given words. the relationship must be logical. In other words, it must make sense. You wouldn’t have a pair of words like “economist” and “plumber” together.

Sorry, but your analogy was not logical, it did not make sense. Maybe you should have tried this one:

Rep. Mo Brooks is not an economist the way Barack Obama is the President of the USA.

I just had to go back and look the “Great Gotcha” that the Rep. Mo Brooks (a Tea Party Freshman) respectfully respond with to Contessa Brewer. It made it easy to confirm for me why MSNBC has such low ratings.

Brewer showed total disregard or either never learned the age old adage for cross examination … that is you don’t ask a question that you don’t already have a good idea as to what the answer is going to be. Also have a response prepared for any answer.

Considering everything, there was no surprise to me in the video, for liberal reporters seem to think they know everything … and that Tea Partiers, and Republicans in general, are really dumb.

Capitalist Eric: I have a Bachelors Science degree in Managerial Economics from UC Davis.

gobsheit: Managerial Economics - LOL I guess the world needs shoe store managers, too.

Wow, nothing like letting your ignorance show...

It's essentially a "super finance" degree- all the foo-foo classes tossed out. Two years of econometrics. Two years of statistics. One semester of portfolio management (applied risk-management principles). A year of applied economics- where 90% of the time, the answer involves the sentence "take the derivative of"... [That's calculus for you artsy-fartsy degree-holders- I got my B.Sci. in one of the few areas of life where calc is actually used on a regular basis.)

I have three other degrees, and I'm half-way through my doctorate.

How does your G.E.D. compare?

You're a fucking moron, gobsheit. You demonstrate that daily.

It used to be the leftists that had bumper-stickers that said things like "Question Authority.' Today they follow Orwells' mottos:

Stephen King once observed, "The beauty of religion mania is that it has the power to explain everything... [and] …logic can be happily tossed out the window.

This describes socialists. They will ignore logic and "common sense." They will ignore REALITY.

Because THEY are religious zealots...

gobsheit: I can imagine you kooks Googling the terms trying to find something ...

Look HERE.

The managerial economics major at UC Davis goes beyond the limits of traditional economics and business majors, blending a thorough grounding in economic theory with business knowledge and applications. You will specialize in at least one of three options: managerial economics, which focuses on evaluating, financing and managing business activities; environmental and resource economics, which focuses on issues related to use of resources and environmental quality; or agricultural economics, which focuses on the business aspects of producing and marketing foods and fibers. The real- world focus of this major provides ideal preparation for transition into the business world or to postgraduate business administration programs.

Real World Managerial economics majors from UC Davis have entered careers in every area of business and industry, including marketing, analysis, consulting and financial service. They work with organizations such as Apple Computer, Deloitte & Touche, Mervyn's, Bogle Vineyards and Pacific Bell. Many have also become entrepreneurs, launching businesses in areas as diverse as real estate and magazine publishing. Others have entered advanced degree programs in business management, resource planning and law.

Major Requirements You will begin your study with a series of core courses in management, economics, calculus and statistics, and either social, natural or agricultural sciences. You will then focus your studies on your specific area of interest, selecting courses in topics such as marketing, taxation, international commodity and resource markets, the role of government in business regulation, real estate and other investments. Many students choose to challenge themselves by enrolling in an honors senior seminar, where they develop projects on areas of personal interest (recent topics have included "The Effects of Tobacco PAC Contributions on Tobacco Legislation" and "What Drives Internet Sales?").

Oh, and gobshit? CHECK-MATE.

It used to be the leftists that had bumper-stickers that said things like "Question Authority.' Today they follow Orwells' mottos:

War is peace.

Freedom is slavery.

Ignorance is strength.

They blindly LOVE Big Brother. They believe competition, pride & profiting from ones labor, are evil things to be banished.

Stephen King once observed, "The beauty of religion mania is that it has the power to explain everything... [and] …logic can be happily tossed out the window.

This describes socialists. They will ignore logic and "common sense." They will ignore REALITY.

Because THEY are religious zealots...

Their God... is the STATE.
