Title: MSBNC's Contessa Brewer Sticks her Foot in her Mouth Again

MSNBC's Contessa Brewer, you may remember just yesterday said the attack on Rupert Murdoch at a hearing encapsulated what the British were feeling.

Today, Contessa "educated" a conservative Representative that without the bailout, the country would be in "a depression." Rep. Mo Brooks (R-AL) said he disagreed which prompted the MSNBC host to ask him if he had a degree in economics.

"Yes ma'am, I do. Highest honors," Rep. Brooks responded.

According to his Congressional page: "Mo graduated from Duke University in three years with a double major in political science and economics, with highest honors in economics. In 1978, he graduated from the University of Alabama Law School."

Actually Mo Brooks does not have a “degree in economics.” What he has is a BA from Duke. He may have majored in economics, which means he took a few undergraduate courses or maybe even a few graduate courses in economics, but that is not the same thing as getting an MA or a PhD in the topic. It certainly doesn’t make him an economist. The loony ideas he was expressing today would suggest otherwise

Getting a Bachelor's degree in biology does not make you a medical doctor and getting a Bachelor's degree in business administration or finance/accounting does not make you an "economist". But I guess for someone out of Alabama that is close enough for govt work.

He never said he was an economist. He said that he had a degree in economics.

You just can't comprehend what you read.

There is no degree in economics at an undergrad level. He has a Bachelor's of Arts / Science degree.

Capitalist Eric: I have a Bachelors Science degree in Managerial Economics from UC Davis.

gobsheit: Managerial Economics - LOL I guess the world needs shoe store managers, too.

Wow, nothing like letting your ignorance show...

It's essentially a "super finance" degree- all the foo-foo classes tossed out. Two years of econometrics. Two years of statistics. One semester of portfolio management (applied risk-management principles). A year of applied economics- where 90% of the time, the answer involves the sentence "take the derivative of"... [That's calculus for you artsy-fartsy degree-holders- I got my B.Sci. in one of the few areas of life where calc is actually used on a regular basis.)

I have three other degrees, and I'm half-way through my doctorate.

How does your G.E.D. compare?

You're a fucking moron, gobsheit. You demonstrate that daily.

LOL. I wasn't just given "an opportunity for acceptance..." They ASKED me to attend their program. Oh, and my class is quite small, and includes a lot of "heavy hitters." They don't have room for slouches... [Read that as: "They're probably NOT going to call you, bucky..."]

As to being a "GODDAMNED LIAR," well... a lot of dullards think that. You're in good company.

Here's a riddle for you, bucky...

Question: What would be the POINT of lying?
Answer: There IS no reason to lie...

So you think whatever you want to think... and don't let reality EVER get in the way of your preconceived opinions, ok? 'Cause, if you did, then you'd have to face the fact that... you're an idiot.

Is it possible for you to describe your doctoral program? What is the name of the college/university? What are the qualifications for admission? What is required for and about the completion of your doctoral thesis?

Those questions should be easy to answer without revealing any personal data, Doctor Eric.

Incorrect. As I said, my program is quite small. It's the only one of its kind in the world. Oh, and for the record, it's a "brick-and-mortar" school, not an internet-based program...

I sense an awful "lot" of abstentions/lack of participation for someone that really has no ranking or capability to profess his own academic credentials.

Yet, you were eager to thwart Godwinson's ideas. You made your own academic credentials a necessary part of the discussion as though you had SOME GODDAMNED RIGHT to throw you various academic degrees around because you are an authority.

OK, you can't discuss the participation of your current academic goals any more because it is some sort of "secret."

Perhaps, you can fill us in on the THREE baccalaureate programs you claim to have completed? What schools did you receive your degrees from? What were the major fields of study?

Thanks again, in advance.

It must involve mainly work experience, such as seeing high many times he can post large font sizes, in lieu of actual instruction. While attending all those important 'meetings' while at work.

Most anyone involved with a chit-chat channel does not involve or relate their professional qualifications as a method to subdue or sabotage a discussion. It is unnecessary as there is no paid-for service and that sort of stuff really doesn't provide a significant advantage towards the ideas mentioned; in fact, the contrary occurs because the exposure of credentials causes issues of another nature that is a derivative of the entire discussion to begin with.

There are a lot of people in America that profess they have a degree which may qualify them for certain jobs because of a learned skill set. But many managers are wary of these same charlatans. Within today's economic environment, we need actual accomplishments to complete the idea of capability and capacity of an individual to be a well-rounded member of any organizational structure; as a re-build of American industrial might is on on-going. This means that communication capabilities are a fundamental requirement whether the new team member is the CEO or the floor sweep. America is struggling to re-organize its own worker fabric and the choices for candidacy for a position are AWESOME to fathom.

Let me point out an example: I placed a job offering on two different professional websites, IEEE & ASQ, for an engineer. The response was so inundating that I had to shut the ads off after a week as I had received some two thousand resumes to review.

This is a fierce and competitive job market as America has yet to overcome some of the characteristics that drove the markets down to begin with. But, it doesn't mean a collegiate "degree" can set the stage or difference for positions; in fact, an academic degree establishes an advantage over other candidates depending on the field of study.

Godwinson argues for a candidate's worthy credentials on this thread; he further discusses ANY credential is not important to the merits of the job. He describes doing so can limit the capacity and capability of a publick official about his own area of expertise. And the area of economics is not something anyone should profess a skillset in these days in America: it is all BS.

And, I find agreement in his opinion. I express myself differently, is all.

Well, take the US and most of all the world for example. Look at where most national economies are at today with the tens of thousands of economists from around the world actually doing something as in a government job cranking out paper like mad-men.

Kinda like yourself. A degree that already shows failure based on most nations (such as the USA) at the brink of disaster for millions and billions of people.
