Let me point out an example: I placed a job offering on two different professional websites, IEEE & ASQ, for an engineer. The response was so inundating that I had to shut the ads off after a week as I had received some two thousand resumes to review. This is a fierce and competitive job market as America has yet to overcome some of the characteristics that drove the markets down to begin with. But, it doesn't mean a collegiate "degree" can set the stage or difference for positions; in fact, an academic degree establishes an advantage over other candidates depending on the field of study. Godwinson argues for a candidate's worthy credentials on this thread; he further discusses ANY credential is not important to the merits of the job. He describes doing so can limit the capacity and capability of a publick official about his own area of expertise. And the area of economics is not something anyone should profess a skillset in these days in America: it is all BS. And, I find agreement in his opinion.
