The motorcyclist, 55-year-old Philip A. Contos, likely would have survived the accident if he'd been wearing a helmet, state troopers said.
Of course they said that. It's the company line, and they work for the company.
The magical helmet he wasn't wearing would have obviously saved him from a broken neck, right? Or does anyone think you can go head first over the handlebars of a motorcycle moving fast enough to make your tires slide and then grab, and hit hard pavement head first and not have your neck broken?
BTW,how many of you know the helmet standards only require a helmet to be dropped from 15 feet without cracking for it to have the gubbermint seal of approval?
A helmet can save you if your head suffers a striking blow, but a solid hit is going to either kill you or scramble your brain.
Helmet laws were passed to increase dealer profits, and because they are precisely the sort of "we are going to do it for their own good!" mindless bullshit that seems to be a practical issue to those who don't do any thinking about it.
