Muammar Qaddafi can remain in Libya provided he resigns and is prepared to face prosecution, said Jalal el-Gallal, a spokesman for the rebels National Transitional Council. Qaddafi must relinquish power -- him, all members of his family and his inner circle, el-Gallal said in a phone interview from Benghazi today. He must not be given immunity from prosecution and then he can stay or he can leave. If he stays, he must face justice. I dont think any of these are options in his book.
The International Criminal Court issued arrest warrants on June 27 for Qaddafi, his son Saif al-Islam Qaddafi and military intelligence chief Abdullah al Senussi on suspicion of murder and persecution. Qaddafi warned Europe on July 1 that further attacks on Libya would prompt retaliation and told supporters in the capital Tripoli to get ready to end the fight.
