The pro-labor coalition We Are Ohio delivered nearly 1.3 million signatures Wednesday to repeal SB 5, a new law restricting the collective-bargaining rights of public employees, placing it on the November 8 ballot.

People's World reported that the 1,298,301 signatures were delivered to the Secretary of State's office by a semi-truck packed with 1502 boxes of petitions and accompanied by a large "People's Parade."

We Are Ohio collected more signatures than any other petition drive in Ohio history thanks to the work of more than 10,000 volunteers.

The signatures must now be validated by each county board of elections office.

“Today we celebrate the unprecedented achievement of the more than one million Ohioans who want to repeal SB 5,” Melissa Fazekas, spokeswoman for We Are Ohio, said in a statement. “This historic number of signatures sends a strong, clear message to the extreme politicians who played political tricks to pass SB 5 and to the rest of the country."

"More than 1 million voices from all 88 counties can’t be wrong," she continued. "The more than 6200 people who marched today and the more than one million who support the citizen’s veto, are proof that while our campaign may be out spent, we will never be out worked, or out volunteered or out supported by hard working Ohioans.”

The filing of the petitions will keep SB 5 from taking effect until the results of the election are known in November.

I'm curious as to how many of the signatures are fake, and how many of the people who signed it were lied to as to what it meant????? Nobody canvassed my plat trying to get signatures.....

Everybody I know is for what Kasich did, they are tired of paying the taxes required to employ those people.... most of them are idiots..... There have been no demonstrations whatsoever around here about SB5. I finally seen someone today "protesting" SB5, a 75 year old woman in a lawnchair!!! Heck you don't even see any signs along the side of the road talking about SB5.... In Columbus it might be an issue but in the western part of the state it doesn't seem to be an issue.....

So, according to you, "MOST" Cops and Fire Fighters are idiots......

why do you feel this way?

Dayton was recently told (by the US DOJ) they "HAD" to hire people to staff their police departments that "COULDN"T pass the entrance exam!!!!! don't you just love it???? Why hire and pay these clowns good money when they aren't even qualified??????

www.therightscoop.com/jus...-to-lower-police-recruit- test-standards/

You also forget about all of the county maintenance workers, the ones who make up the majority of workers.... police and fire dept do not account for that many positions....

I work for a Mechanical contractor in Dayton who does quite a lot of work for Montgomery Cty.....One of a bout a dozen Montgomery Cty hires on a regular basis..... The county has employees who "SUPPOSEDLY" are qualified to do the work I do for the county.... (at least that's what it says in their job description, most of them only know how to change lightbulbs)!!!

Now why would you want to employ someone who can't do the job they were hired to do, and still have to pay a private contractor to do the job???? The county is paying "TWICE" to get the work done.... does that make sense to you???? Not to me, I'm not gonna pay somebody twice to do something for me... that's insane, but that's what your tax money is going for, and that's why the taxpayers are pissed off....

Yeah, yeah...

I know - the DOT workers leaning on their shovels......

So when you say that "county maintenance workers" make up the majority of workers....can you link to any stats to back it up?

I would have believed that there were far more cops, fire fighters and school teachers than maintenance workers....am I wrong?

DOT works for the State, not the county.....

And I see you have no clue who all works for the county!!!! It's not just fire, police and school teachers.. Try Sanitation, Water and Waste, Social Services, Vehicle Licensing, County commissioner, Legal Resource, Courts, Purchasing ....etc....etc.... etc..... that's just naming a few.... Who do you think gives you your Welfare check of Food Stamps....... a county worker!!!

Since you decided to add teachers into the mix, that last link I sent you about the Mont Cty Police being forced to hire unqualified people, well you can thank the local "UNION" school teachers for that..... If they were doing their job those people might actually be qualified to be cops, they might actually know something or be able to take a test..... That would mean that the taxpayers are "ACTUALLY" getting something in return for their taxes, not a bunch of ca ca ........

I related to you what I have seen from personal experience working with them.... If you want stats then look them up for yourself..... Montgomery county, Ohio!!!!!! See if those stats tell you what you want to know.....

Counties have road maintenance workers. Who do you think maintains the roads that aren't part of the interstates.

DOT (State) takes care of Interstates, US routes and state routes.....

City streets and county roads are under the guidance of the County Operations Engineer.....
