Title: SHOCKER of the Decade: John Lennon was a Closet Republican and Reagan Fan (!)

"He was a very different person back in 1979 and 80 than he'd been when he wrote Imagine. By 1979 he looked back on that guy and was embarrassed by that guy's naivete."

First Alice Cooper... now this

John Lennon was a closet Republican, who felt a little embarrassed by his former radicalism, at the time of his death - according to the tragic Beatles star's last personal assistant.

Fred Seaman worked alongside the music legend from 1979 to Lennon's death at the end of 1980 and he reveals the star was a Ronald Reagan fan who enjoyed arguing with left-wing radicals who reminded him of his former self.

In new documentary Beatles Stories, Seaman tells filmmaker Seth Swirsky Lennon wasn't the peace-loving militant fans thought he was while he was his assistant.

He says, "John, basically, made it very clear that if he were an American he would vote for Reagan because he was really sour on (Democrat) Jimmy Carter.

"He'd met Reagan back, I think, in the 70s at some sporting event... Reagan was the guy who had ordered the National Guard, I believe, to go after the young (peace) demonstrators in Berkeley, so I think that John maybe forgot about that... He did express support for Reagan, which shocked me...

Utter bullshit.

Maybe.

But he was definitely a different person at the end of the 70s than he was at the beginning.

Now, I know Iā€™m not going to change the minds of any of the True Believersā€¦those who read all of Reverend Alā€™s sermons, and say things like, ā€œYou know, global warming can mean warmer OR colder, wetter OR drier, cloudier OR sunnier, windier OR calmer, ā€¦ā€. Can I get an ā€˜amenā€™??

Well his last album released right before his death (the first one he made in years) was lambasted by critics (up until his death anyway) for being too "corny" and family oriented .

I'd like to think he fought his way out of the darkness of liberalism and into the light. I still remember the shock I felt when I heard he'd been killed.

My two older sisters were big time Beatles fans. I think they went to see them when they played in Shea (?) stadium. They played their albums all the time - to the point that I knew what the next song was, even years later. My one sister loved John Lennon. I still like their music.

Starting out with Berkeley Free Speech
And later on at People's Park
The winds of change fanned into flames
Student demonstrations spark
Down to Isla Vista where police felt so harassed
They called the special riot squad of the L. A. County Sheriff

Well there's a riot going on
There's a riot going on
There's a riot going on
Student demonstration time

The violence spread down South to where Jackson State brothers
Learned not to say nasty things about Southern policemen's mothers
Nothing much was said about it and really next to nothing done
The pen is mightier than the sword, but no match for a gun

Well there's a riot going on
There's a riot going on
Well there's a riot going on
'Cause it's student demonstration time

America was stunned on May 4, 1970
When rally turned to riot up at Kent State University
They said the students scared the Guard
Though the troops were battle dressed
Four martyrs earned a new degree
The Bachelor of Bullets

I know we're all fed up with useless wars and racial strife
But next time there's a riot, well, you best stay out of sight

Well there's a riot going on
There's a riot going on
Well there's a riot going on
Student demonstration time

Stay away when there's a riot going on
Student demonstration

All I remember was breathing through vinegar rags to counteract the Mace and trying to figure out where the classes were to be held off campus, while avoiding the large crowds roaming up and down Bancroft. Oh and walking into the pitch dark White Hall main lecture hall and almost falling through the floor while trying to find the lights only to find out that it had been burned the night before. No markings, no barracades or nothing. The vinegar rags I breathed through had diminished the smell of smoke.

They were driven directly into the stadium in a modified Brinks truck which we had inadvertently followed from the airport.

The Shea Stadium concert on August 15, 1965 was record breaking and one of the most famous concert events of its era. It set records for attendance and revenue generation. Promoter Sid Bernstein said, "Over 55,000 people saw the Beatles at Shea Stadium. We took $304,000, the greatest gross ever in the history of show business."[1] This demonstrated that outdoor concerts on a large scale could be successful and profitable.

Over 55,000 people saw the Beatles at Shea Stadium. We took $304,000,

Less than $6 per person?

You couldn't get a bottle of water at an outdoor concert for that these days.
