Why not? Since he had FEMA, the Air Force and Navy at his disposal. He also commandeered the National Guard, an act which was illegal at the time but congress has since made it legal.

Actually we had a stable depression and panic free economy for almost fifty years, the longest period in US history, after Roosevelt.
First response is ALWAYS the responsibility of local authorities. In fact Bush offered to take the responsibilities earlier, that dumb bitch Blanco turned him down and said she'd think about it a day or two. That it took 3 days to have the convoys fully in place in NOT was not Bush's fault, and it was a damn good job that he got everything there that soon..

Looks like new Orleans after Bush after Nagin and Blanco. Bush is the one who got supplies delivered after 72 hours. Yep. Nagin was the one that didn't enact his own evacuation plan. Blanco was the one who said 'I need to think about it for 24 hours' which caused it to take 72 hours before BUSH and FEMA and the military could get those supplies to NOLA.

I always thought that the 50s and then the 60s - until Viet Nam - were the most prosperous period in America in the 20th century.
Gnu says 'no', that we had depressions almost every year during that period and usually under a Pubby president too.
The 50s were praised more for their cultural values rather than economic prosperity (although the economy wasn't bad). We've had an umber of recessions since Roosevelt, and a number of other problems like rampant inflation in the 70s.

In my case they also could afford to pay for horses, their feed and expenses, two week camping trips, various lessons, musical instruments and lots of extracurricular stuff on a single fairly typical middle class income. With mom essentially making mad money.
A friend's immigrant father was able to support his wife and two kids, buy a house, a vacation home on several acres in Calistoga, and maintain a truck and a car, on a janitor's income.
