Rep. Michele Bachmann, who officially announced yesterday in Iowa that she is running for president, appeared on “Good Morning America” Monday, where George Stephanopoulos attempted to clarify some of her previous statements. Among them: Bachmann’s claim that “the Founding Fathers who wrote the Constitution and the Declaration of Independence worked tirelessly to end slavery.” “Now with respect, Congresswoman, that’s just not true,” Stephanopoulos said. “Many of them including Jefferson and Washington were actually slave holders and slavery didn’t end until the Civil War.” Bachmann dodged the question, answering, “Well, you know what’s marvelous is that in this country and under our Constitution, we have the ability when we recognize that something is wrong to change it. And that’s what we did in our country. We changed it. We no longer have slavery. That’s a good thing. And what our Constitution has done for our nation, is to give us the basis of freedom unparalleled in the rest of the world.” She goes on to claim that John Quincy Adams, who was a small boy during the Revolutionary War and did indeed eventually work to abolish slavery, should be counted as a “Founding Father.” Watch the visibly distraught Stephanopoulos’ interview with the tea party candidate, in which she discusses the minimum wage, Sarah Palin and her foster children. Eliminating minimum wage may get more people on the payroll - but they would earn so little (I am assuming they would be paid below the minimum wage since that is what was preventing them from being hired) - that they would be working poor who would still need govt assistance like food stamps. Minimum wage should have been raised years ago and has been held back to levels that ensure those paid under that amount will not be able to live with that income.

I suggest you on the left worry more about the here and now, when the UNEMPLOYED RISE UP and vote to fire Owe-bama and company. And whats this 'we' shit? Let alone 'your class' nonsense? I'm a small business owner, dumbass. I pay way above 'minimum wage', at least double, because my company is only as good as the people we hire. Again, if you had ever run a company you would know this. but, obviously, you don't. So you have to rely on insane leftwingnut talking points, and look ridiculous as a direct result. Kinda like Owe-bama, or to be fair, McCain.
And replace him with what Boof? Reps and Senators and a POTUS who believe that the reason that people are unemployed is because their own fault? Reps and Sens and a POTUS who will cut their benefits? Their access to heath care? Demand that they contribute more to pensions and health care while vetoing a modest tax increase on millionaires? Do you really believe that the electorate, when all is said and done, is going to elect people who have been blaming them for their own problems and, as a reward for so voting, will gut any safety net that they may have?
One of my tavern acquaintances told me yesterday that July 1 will be his last day and he's retiring. He's 62 but he's very concerned about making his monthly medical insurance payments of ~$660 per month until he reaches age 65. He'll likely find part-time work or work under the table if he can. He appears healthy but he had some sort of stroke 4 years ago.
I'm astounded but not surprised that the GOP has totally misread the mood of the voter.
