United States News Title: Obama unveils manufacturing initiative "We cannot remain the world's engine of innovation without manufacturing activity," the President's Council of Advisors on Science and Technology told Obama in a report released with the speech. "The Nation's historic leadership in manufacturing, however, is at risk." The report called for $500 to $1 billion in yearly funding of such activities over the next four years, making research and development tax credits permanent and at a 17% reimbursement rate favored by business and double the funding of the National Science Foundation, National Institute of Standards and Technologies and Office of Science at the Energy Department, which support academic research. In related news, the National Research Council on Thursday called for local school boards to elevate science education to the same level as reading and math in their districts, using similar yearly tests. In particular, early science education should be beefed up, "as research suggests that interest in science careers may develop in the elementary school years," said the council. As a result, manufacturers often turn to foreign engineers, the Presidential report says, calling for easing of work visa requirements: On a note of caution -- a number of reports have noted that top U.S. science and engineering graduates have increasingly moved into better-paying and less competitive jobs in finance, medicine and management over the last two decades. In a 2009 study headed by Lindsay Lowell of Georgetown University, for example, investigators, "found that universities in the United States actually graduate many more STEM (science, technology, engineering and mathematics) students than are hired each year, and produce large numbers of top-performing science and math students." The muther-fucker spent about two years developing his 0bama health plan without regard to the American economy following Keynesian voo-doo practices. Oh sure, he spent trillions for government infra-structure called "stimulus" which EVERYONE knows has poorly performed during a critical period in America's history. Now, a wee bit of tax relief for advanced degree engineers to supervise "workers" with a tax break. Oh boy! The muther-fucker is one spin job to be sure.
