When did kids in this country ever give the Nazi salute? All that happened was that the pledge was recited the way it was written, not the way it was changed by the cold warriors. There was a short-lived "Bellamy salute" that some students used that resembled the Nazi salute. It was changed to the hand over heart version in 1942 for obvious reasons. Now, would I like to return to the earlier version? No. As a matter of principle I'd like to see the pledge abandoned altogether.
