Did anyone see the opening to the U.S. Open Golf Tournament? NBC TWICE had a group of school children reciting the Pledge of Allegiance and edited it so that the phrase "under God, indivisible" was omitted. Can't wait to hear the NBC's new version of the National Anthem.

The original "Pledge of Allegiance" until the 1950s did not have the "Under God" reference and - this is the good part - the Pledge was created by a Socialist minister - I mean full Socialist - commie pinko. Heck, before WW2 and Hitler made the salute unpopular - American's said the Pledge in the "Roman" manner - out stretched hand directed at the flag aka the Nazi salute (the old Roman Republic salute).
To all of you offering the excuse that NBC was just saying it the way it used to be said, would you be making the same argument if the kids were shown standing there giving the Nazi salute while saying it, just like it used to be done?
That's a stupid comparison. When did kids in this country ever give the Nazi salute? All that happened was that the pledge was recited the way it was written, not the way it was changed by the cold warriors.
Do you ever take the time to read what's posted? That's the same time period. So, if you want to go back to "the way it was", you'd have no problem going back to "Roman style"?
Because someone says something doesn't mean I accept it as being true. I'd like to see some data.
The pledge was formally adopted in 1942, so I doubt very much that anyone was doing a Nazi salute with it. Here's an image from 1899 showing students saying an earlier version of the pledge. Note that the hands are over the heart, but turned 90 degrees from resting on the chest.

There was additional movement of the hands where this hand thus resting on the heart palm down would be extended to the flag. I don't recall if the movement in the picture is the end of the salute or the start of the salute. The so called "Sieg Heil" motion you see in films about Nazis. The Nazis of course stole this salute but tainted it by using it.
