Did anyone see the opening to the U.S. Open Golf Tournament?

NBC TWICE had a group of school children reciting the Pledge of Allegiance and edited it so that the phrase "under God, indivisible" was omitted.

Can't wait to hear the NBC's new version of the National Anthem.

It is common practice for ALL news agencies to use their discretion of editing ANY presentation they feel like. In this singular case, they not only PROVED it but also ADMITTED the same to the publick.

Your answer is much better than mine.

Correct. It's not what I'm looking for.

They can report "a news event" any way they want.

Here's a hint. What if they printed the Constitution on their website, and decided to edit to fit their agenda????

You both talked about them editing the pledge. Buck talks about it being public knowledge now. If it is public knowlege as buck says. Then people can see that it was edited to fit an agenda as you mention.

That is why I said what you said and buckeroo said is pretty much the same thing.

There is a major GLITCH in your post.

The US CIA has invaded both US and FOREIGN press with agents. This was proved some 30 years ago. And the larger the press organization (such as ABC, CBS, NBC (et. al.) the more CIA agents contribute towards news articles.

I am confident you know that minor fact that is not newsworthy.

The original "Pledge of Allegiance" until the 1950s did not have the "Under God" reference and - this is the good part - the Pledge was created by a Socialist minister - I mean full Socialist - commie pinko. Heck, before WW2 and Hitler made the salute unpopular - American's said the Pledge in the "Roman" manner - out stretched hand directed at the flag aka the Nazi salute (the old Roman Republic salute).

It's amusing to watch conservative patriots get all possessive about the pledge written by a socialist.

If most had been around after the revolution I'm sure they would have found the constitution that was drawn up to be much too restrictive of their 'right' to be anarchists.

That's a stupid comparison. When did kids in this country ever give the Nazi salute?

All that happened was that the pledge was recited the way it was written, not the way it was changed by the cold warriors.

The pledge was formally adopted in 1942, so I doubt very much that anyone was doing a Nazi salute with it.

Here's an image from 1899 showing students saying an earlier version of the pledge. Note that the hands are over the heart, but turned 90 degrees from resting on the chest.

I will revise my last post. There was a short-lived "Bellamy salute" that some students used that resembled the Nazi salute. It was changed to the hand over heart version in 1942 for obvious reasons.

Now, would I like to return to the earlier version? No. As a matter of principle I'd like to see the pledge abandoned altogether. I'm surprised the opponents of Socialism and Big Government don't agree with me.

That is why I said what you said and buckeroo said is pretty much the same thing.

Stone, re-reading my post, I wrote it poorly and didn't get my idea across. Lemee try again.

They can report a "news event" any way they want to, and that's fine by me. They can use the reason that, "folks see the same event differently". And everyone knows they "interpret" (spin) the facts to fit their agenda. And that is what buckeroo was talking about.

They can "interpret" the facts, but they shouldn't CHANGE the facts to fit their interpretation. That's what I was talking about.

But the Pledge is what it is. It is a fact. It is what it is NOW. They have CHANGED fact to fit their position. And it was no oversight. It was done not once but TWICE during their presentation. It was deliberate.

They can argue all day long whether or not the 2nd Amendment pertains to a militia or to the individual, BUT THEY CANNOT CHANGE THE WORDING OF THE 2ND AMENDMENT to support their argument.

Suppose they had children recite the 2nd Amendment as follows: A well regulated Militia,(break to show Marines raising the flag) being necessary to the security of a free State, (break to show F-16s passing overhead) the right (break to show soldiers saluting the flag)to keep and bear Arms,(break to show whatever) shall not be infringed. (Show large American flag waving in the breeze as patriotic music swells to a climax)

The omission of the phrase "of the people" would be no different than omitting the phrase "under God, indivisible".

The Bellamy salute is the salute described by Francis Bellamy (1855–1931) to accompany the American Pledge of Allegiance, which he had authored. During the period when it was used with the Pledge of Allegiance, it was sometimes known as the "flag salute". During the 1920s and 1930s, Italian fascists and Nazis adopted salutes which were similar in form, resulting in controversy over the use of the Bellamy salute in the United States. It was officially replaced by the hand-over-heart salute when Congress officially amended the Flag Code on 22 December 1942.

What I am pointing out - not arguing on behalf of NBC - is the irony - funny irony - that so called conservatives are so outraged a socialist pledge was mangled. I mean, you kooks are the limited govt types freaking out that the school of the govt is teaching your kids stuff and yet you demand that the most socialist of all pledges - socialist in origin and message - is not in any way weakened.

That is why you so called conservatives are laughable clowns.

Race. These are the old Dixie-crats metamorphed for a new era. They hate the govt more so when it became responsible for ending discriminations. Much of the so called right wing world view is based around them having the freedomn to deny rights and services to minority groups.

With that said, the Pledge Of Allegiance fetish shows that this group - which can't stand govt or the state - supposedly - actually loves the symbolisms of 19th century nationalism (of course it makes sense if you realize this nationalism excludes minority Americans).

There was additional movement of the hands where this hand thus resting on the heart palm down would be extended to the flag. I don't recall if the movement in the picture is the end of the salute or the start of the salute. The so called "Sieg Heil" motion you see in films about Nazis. The Nazis of course stole this salute but tainted it by using it.
