An MSNBC interview from early 2009 has resurfaced to haunt Barack Obama, who explained to Matt Lauer that if he had not fixed the economy within three years, then he will be a one-term president. Check out the video after the break, and let us know your thoughts in the comments.
Throughout the entire interview, Obama employs a tired blame Bush rhetoric, but the best part comes with his message for economic recovery. At around the 4:45 mark, Obama makes his one-term presidency remark, saying "If I don't have this done in three years, then this is going to be a one-term proposition."

It’s a killer twice over: Not only does it preempt the “Bush’s recession” narrative that The One will inevitably resort to once he gets desperate (Debbie Downer is feeding Republicans lots of ammo against that point, thankfully), but it’s lethal to the White House’s new messaging calling for patience on the economy. Remember when he used to talk about “the fierce urgency of now”? That’s the old Obama; the new Obama is more of a “it’s going to take time” kind of guy.
This interview resurfaced at the same time as DNC Chairwoman Debbie Wasserman Schultz told Politico that Democrats "own" the economy.
We own the economy. We own the beginning of the turnaround and we want to make sure that we continue that pace of recovery, not go back to the policies of the past under the Bush administration that put us in the ditch in the first place.
