Corporate executives bullish on the economy expect to ramp up hiring in the second half of the year, according to a survey conducted by the Business Roundtable. The survey released on Tuesday found that 87 percent of the group’s CEOs expect higher sales over the next six months, and more than half plan to increase capital spending and U.S. hiring. The survey showed slightly less confidence than three months ago, when 92 percent of those surveyed expected their sales to increase, but leaders of the group touted the survey as reflecting confidence the economy would move forward in the next six months. “We continue to see an upward trend for the last six months of 2011,” said Ivan Seidenberg, chairman of the Business Roundtable and chairman and CEO of Verizon Communications.

We saw this last year too...the hiring never materialized...we were told it was because there was uncertainlty pver the tax cuts...

A friend was going through the process of a mortgage modification when she got a call from the bank. They had good news - a program that would reduce her monthly payment to a fraction of what it was for three months. This program was so good, the banker said, that he wasn't going to wait for her to make a decision, but was going to sign her up. Almost three months later she was informed that she would have to come up with the difference between what she was conned into paying and the mortgage payment amount or the bank would foreclose. Her home was not underwater, she had never missed a payment or been late making a payment. Fortunately she was able to come up with the money and make the balloon payment. How banks, in this case Wells Fargo, can get away with sleazy shit is beyond me.
