Man with dead weasel accused of assault – 4 mins ago HOQUIAM, Wash. – Police say a man was carrying a dead weasel when he burst into an apartment and assaulted a man in Washington state. The victim asked, "Why are you carrying a weasel?" Police said the attacker answered, "It's not a weasel, it's a marten," then punched him in the nose and fled. The attacker was apparently looking for his girlfriend and had gone to her former boyfriend's apartment Monday where the victim was a guest. KXRO reports he left the carcass behind. Police later found the 33-year-old Hoquiam man arguing with his girlfriend at another location and arrested him after a fight. He said he had found the marten dead near Hoquiam, but police don't know why he carried it with him. A marten is a member of the weasel family.

You are correct. Any native wild animal involved permissions and authorizations and is never a good idea to get involved in without training and better than domestic animal sanitary care and more stringent protocols. I have had someone try to hand over a wild mustelid once, but I took them and the animal to the local wildlife rehabilitation center to deal with the situation in the appropriate way. I recommend anyone coming across a wild animal to do the same.

. And, it has to be asked, why are you attacking innocents who are not familiar with the differences between you weasels? ------------------------------------- The closest I ever had a ferret come to going to the Rainbow Bridge that was partually due to my actions was when a 'Jill' (female, males are 'hobs') pulled on a tablecloth and dumped a pot of scalding tea on herself. She had to have surgery to remove dead skin, and I had to stay home and nurse her to insure temperature control and to make sure she did not get dehydrated while healing for two weeks. I am a very experianced ferret person. I have pre-made 'Lost Ferret' leaflets to put up at a moment's notice should one get out and lost. I also always offer a reward and *knock on wood* so far they have always come home when they have slipped out. Ferrets are considered exotic animals primarily because of their poor eyesight which puts them at a severe disadvantage crossing streets, or finding home once out. I had a junkie steal ferrets out of my car thinking they were rare black footed ferrets like the ones he saw in a TV wildlife special. I found them when he tried to sell them at a pet store, and I collected a hefty sum in civil court from him when his Dad passed away and I became a line item to deal with in Probate court. It is also a felony to steal a companion pet in Oregon, so he was punished that way too. Ferrets have stolen my heart. Some day I'll find the hidey hole they stashed it and get it back. ;-D
Naw, and we forest activists call them 'Freddies' because it's more fun than calling them 'Feddies.' With my history as someone profoundly unhappy with forest management, I do't think they would want me even should I ever apply for such a job.

Their eyes are designed to see movement of prey. They are animals that prey on burrowing animals. The males in the wild go after the big ones like rabbits and gophers. The females are a third smaller and go after things like rats and mice. This allows both genders to exist without much competition for prey in the same area. Domestic ferrets came about when armys like that of the Romans bred rabbits which were originally from the Iberian Peninsula on places like islands in the Mediterranean Sea in warrens. When they would escape controlled warrens they would cause erosion and defoliation, so the ferret was used to hunt these rogues down and to control them. Hunting with Polecats/ferrets is popular in places like England and is banned here in the U.S. Purse nets that are spring loaded are set up at all a warren's entrances and the ferret is inserted into it and the pan iced rabbits get caught as they flee these other entrances.
