My Fellow Americans: Last night, when I spoke with you about the fall of Rome, I knew at that moment that troops of the United States and our Allies were crossing the Channel in another and greater operation. It has come to pass with success thus far. And so, in this poignant hour, I ask you to join with me in prayer: Almighty God: Our sons, pride of our nation, this day have set upon a mighty endeavor, a struggle to preserve our Republic, our religion, and our civilization, and to set free a suffering humanity. Lead them straight and true; give strength to their arms, stoutness to their hearts, steadfastness in their faith. They will need Thy blessings. Their road will be long and hard. For the enemy is strong. He may hurl back our forces. Success may not come with rushing speed, but we shall return again and again; and we know that by Thy grace, and by the righteousness of our cause, our sons will triumph. They will be sore tried, by night and by day, without rest – until the victory is won. The darkness will be rent by noise and flame. Men's souls will be shaken with the violences of war. For these men are lately drawn from the ways of peace. They fight not for the lust of conquest. They fight to end conquest. They fight to liberate. They fight to let justice arise, and tolerance and goodwill among all Thy people. They yearn but for the end of battle, for their return to the haven of home. Some will never return. Embrace these, Father, and receive them, Thy heroic servants, into Thy kingdom. And for us at home – fathers, mothers, children, wives, sisters, and brothers of brave men overseas, whose thoughts and prayers are ever with them – help us, Almighty God, to rededicate ourselves in renewed faith in Thee in this hour of great sacrifice. Many people have urged that I call the nation into a single day of special prayer. But because the road is long and the desire is great, I ask that our people devote themselves in a continuance of prayer. As we rise to each new day, and again when each day is spent, let words of prayer be on our lips, invoking Thy help to our efforts. Give us strength, too – strength in our daily tasks, to redouble the contributions we make in the physical and the material support of our armed forces. And let our hearts be stout, to wait out the long travail, to bear sorrows that may come, to impart our courage unto our sons wheresoever they may be. And, O Lord, give us faith. Give us faith in Thee; faith in our sons; faith in each other; faith in our united crusade. Let not the keeness of our spirit ever be dulled. Let not the impacts of temporary events, of temporal matters of but fleeting moment – let not these deter us in our unconquerable purpose. With Thy blessing, we shall prevail over the unholy forces of our enemy. Help us to conquer the apostles of greed and racial arrogances. Lead us to the saving of our country, and with our sister nations into a world unity that will spell a sure peace – a peace invulnerable to the schemings of unworthy men. And a peace that will let all of men live in freedom, reaping the just rewards of their honest toil. Thy will be done, Almighty God. Amen.

You can tell these words were real words,.....the depth and reach,....the intent,.....the resolve. Not like the words flipped off around soldiers in our day.....with politicians waiting for their moment of applause. Some hated FDR for the new deal,...that days version of socialism. My Union [Boilermakers AFL CIO],....we build America's warships,submarines,...allong with oil/gas industry ,....mines,dams,nuke reactors. Local 614 members build sub in record time THANKS TO THE efforts of Local 614 members (Groton, Conn.) the U.S. Navy christened its newest Virginia-class nuclear-powered attack submarine, the New Hampshire, on June 21, a date that coincided with the 220th anniversary of New Hampshire’s statehood. The fifth Virginia class to be built, she was completed months ahead of schedule at General Dynamics Electric Boat in Groton, Conn. The submarine was christened by Cheryl McGuinness, a resident of Portsmouth, N.H. Her husband, Tom, died on Sept. 11, 2001, in the attacks on the World Trade Center. He was a co-pilot of American Airlines Flight 11. The christening marked the third time the U.S. Navy has named a ship after the state of New Hampshire. The newest New Hampshire is the first Virginia-class ship to be built in 72 months, down from 84. “That’s a savings of $8 million in man-hours alone,” reports Local 614 Bus. Mgr. Frank Ward. The newest New Hampshire is also the first submarine of its class to be placed in the water at 99 percent completion. The 7,800-ton submarine was built under a teaming arrangement between General Dynamics Electric Boat and Northrop Grumman Shipbuilding in Newport News, Va. She is 337 feet in length, has a beam of 34 feet, and can operate at more than 25 knots submerged. The New Hampshire’s improved stealth, sophisticated surveillance capabilities, and special warfare enhancements will enable it to meet the Navy’s multi- mission requirements. It is scheduled to be commissioned October 25 at the Portsmouth Naval Shipyard in Kittery, Maine. Local 614 has represented workers at the shipyard since it was chartered in 1944.[end] Parrot:.....Chartered in 1944,...thats a long legacy serving,....which some would cast as trash who sit on their ass's and collect.

Thanks for your comment. I couldn't think of a single thing to add to the prayer. That world is NOT completely gone yet. GOD willing, it never will be.

Yet I would not really call it socialism like the opportunist unions which produce little and draw big in the cash dept.
There is,....alot of those kind of unions.

I wish there was more common sense in these Union wars occurring in America.
A nation can destroy its own strength if it is careless and does not consider who is behind the cheering section to pull things down.
The Banker/Globalists would like a Soviet version of worker,...a slave living in a box near the plant who works until he drops dead.
America gave the workers who built America's war machine a future.
Many learned skills during the war which launched their dreams.
These in turn bought homes,...became the community and sent their kiddo's to higher education.
America went from Depression/war and huge debt,....to security,...a space program and the highest living standard in the world when population numbers are factored.
Its gone wrong now....alot of questions are asked as to what happened.
The rush to outsourcing and the gutting of America's Industrial base was the flood gate in my opinion.
The reports of betrayal and Intrigues as dual use technologies appeared for other nations to use...
The Politician and Wallstreet boast of the benefit,...yet the words ring hollow.
FDR's words meant something back in the day,....to the millions of war time workers,...to the logistics groups,....the soldiers....those at home....sitting near their radio's.
Today,...words like Conservative,...service....honor are tossed about and become some confusing jingo tune.
What do they exactly mean in this day of raging lies and deception?
I'm glad FDR's word exist as a record,...that the history of that time is still available to plug into.
The old saying.....If you don't stand for something,....you'll fall for anything
