Title: Jon Stewarts The Daily Show Ratings Soar, Fox News Slumps In May Numbers

Comedy Central and "The Daily Show" both surged in the May Nielsen ratings, posting their best numbers yet. "The Daily Show" dominated its time slot across all of television, cable and broadcast, and boasted a very impressive 19 percent increase in viewership in May alone.

Meanwhile, according to Mediabistro's TV Newser, Fox News suffered an overall decline in viewers in the highly sought-after 25-to-54-year old demographic for May, with total ratings down 10 percent. Bill O'Reilly's viewership dropped 9 percent, Sean Hannity's 6 percent, with Greta Van Susteren and Glenn Beck suffering the steepest losses with Van Susteren's "On the Record" losing 12 percent of its audience and Glenn Beck sliding a whopping 17 percent.

Some of the fall-off in Beck's numbers may be attributable to the fact that his show is going off the air, but it has been a consistent loser in the ratings for several months. The drop in public interest is echoed in ratings for radio shows hosted by Beck and Rush Limbaugh, which have each lost a third of their listenership in the last year, according to the radio polling group Arbitron.

The new Nielsen numbers show that "The Daily Show" averaged 2.3 million viewers, beating every program on Fox except Bill O'Reilly's average of 2.8 million. "The Daily Show" and "The Colbert Report" beat all other cable and broadcast programming in a number of categories, including having the most affluent viewers and the most active web-sties.

I'll bet that O'Reilly's ratings are down because Judge Napolitono is competing in his time slot on Fox Business.

I watch Fox Business much more than I watch Fox. Much more.

How is MSNBC doing? In the crapper as usual.

Congrats. Looks like you're the one keeping them in business.

If MSNBC is in the crapper, FBN is already at the sewage treatment plant.

Fox Business is very new compared to the other cable outlets on the list.

I didn't ask about their ratings, I asked about Napolitano versus O'Reilly. My assertion was that O'Reilly's slight dip might because of Napolitano, who is in the same time slot.

Looking at the pathetic numbers for FBN I'd say your assertion is false.

CNN reached a cumulative audience of 117 million viewers in May, FNC lagged behind with 94 million and MSNBC averaged 92 million. This represents CNN’s best cumulative audience since January 2010 (Haiti earthquake).

So MSNBC is only 2 million viewers behind Faux Newz. I'm guessing the Fauz Newz audience is dying off.

I like Napolitono but rarely see him anymore unless it is on a FOX network station.

The numbers you posted don't show that at all. Do you understand numbers? Most people don't, I'm just curious.

You posted station ratings, I'm asking about a specific time slot, which the numbers you posted don't depict at all.

The drop in public interest is echoed in ratings for radio shows hosted by Beck and Rush Limbaugh, which have each lost a third of their listenership in the last year, according to the radio polling group Arbitron.

There was a woman on freerepublic that was one of those nuts that was calling the health care law socialism and how it would lead to death panels, etc.

Then her private insurance provider dropped coverage on a drug she needed to live on and she asked if any freeper knew how to get it from Canada.

As this economy starts to bite, all those listeners and "fans" of the FOX kooks suddenly find themselves in need of govt assistance and maybe had a realization that FOX is now their enemy not ally? In other words, they are not just a a paycheck away from being small business owners and rich but a paycheck away from being homeless?

This is the person's new profile (her last one was all about the evils of govt assistance and health care): http://www.freerepublic.com/~fatnotlazy/ And the screen name: Well, I am overweight, although I have brought my weight down from a high of 220 pounds to about 160 now. It’s a struggle, but I work at it. I am currently unemployed and collecting disability, including Social Security. It pains me to have to rely on government at least partially for my survival, but I keep hoping someday I will be earning on my own again. I wonder how many of the obese fat conservatives fans of FOX news resemble this profile? And if so maybe they don't like being called 'parasites" by people they once were fans of? Thus ratings decline (also FOX viewers tend to be old and may be dropping like flies).

If I can find specific time slot data I'll post it.

But the point is that FBN's ratings are so low that I doubt very much that that even if the entire viewer base of FBN came from O'Reilly it would have little impact on his ratings.

Since Fox demographics skew towards the older viewer, I suspect the majority are receiving or are about to receive government assistance in the form of SS and Medicare.

I looked at that freeper poster's comments on Freerepublic - she is attacking govt assistance while depending on govt assistance that for her life.

She is 58, single and obese. No one in the private sector will give her employment, ever. She will be on public assistance for the remainder of her life and yet she wants this system to end. That is a telling example of the cognitive dissonance of the Republican kook base. Maybe some have woken up and realized that they still like their guns and the military and waving the flag and govt assisted programs?

It's the Limbaugh Syndrome. These people think that a wealthy elitist has their best interests at heart, while in reality Limbaugh would have his limo driver run them off the road if they ever got in his way.

I'd say all this documents is a 24% unemployment rate among those between 18 - 25...and vacations for the adults that watch Fox News.

The FBN is offered in very limited areas.

Now, I know I’m not going to change the minds of any of the True Believers…those who read all of Reverend Al’s sermons, and say things like, “You know, global warming can mean warmer OR colder, wetter OR drier, cloudier OR sunnier, windier OR calmer, …”. Can I get an ‘amen’??
