Leo Strauss who was father of the neocons said that Gunsmoke and Perry Mason were the best TV shows.
He liked Gunsmoke because it is easy to tell the good guy from the bad guy and becaus at the end of the every show the guy in the white hat kills the guy in the black hat.
He liked Perry Mason because he always looks like he is working for honest clients who deserve to 'get off' and because he always looks like he, himself, is an ethical lawyer. In fact, his clients might be guilty as heck and he might be cheating them.
What many people don't know is that much of Neocon political doctrine is based on how these shows influenced this man.
I prefered westerns like Maverick, Bat Masterson, and even the Wild Wild West to the more conventional ones like Bonanza, The Big Valley, etc. But even shows that were generally written well had political scews like the way they handled the problems with the way Native Americans were generally treated.
