There is no way for Republicans to spin away Democrat Kathy Hochul’s victory in New York’s deeply red 26th congressional district. This is a big setback for Paul Ryan’s budget and a warning for Republican incumbents everywhere. This is simply not a district a Republican should have lost. Conservative overreach has clearly woken up Democrats and has gone down badly with independents. The GOP can’t claim that Republican Jane Corwin lost because of a vote split with Tea Party candidate Jack Davis. With 87 percent of the precincts in, Hochul had 48 percent to Corwin’s 42 percent. Davis got just 9 percent, and the Green Party candidate picked up 1 percent. Let’s assume Hochul drops a point when the missing precints, which are mostly from Republican areas, are in. Republicans can’t claim that all of the votes that went to Davis, a former Democrat, would have gone to Corwin.

I think #2 is the biggest potential failure next year. Thats basically what that idiot McCain did. But the end game remains the same, its about the economy. If unemployment is 8% or greater, Owe-bama most certainly gets fired. If its not, he has a chance, but a slim one, of being rehired. Thats how I see it.

Bush will beat Gore by 9% and by well over 100 in the EC. Bush will defeat Kerry in a landslide. The Dems will not take one chamber let alone two in 2006. Ken Blackwell be the next governor of Ohio [2006]. McCain will never be the nominee in 2008. If you want to know why, look at South Carolina in 2000. Hillary won't seek the nomination [2008]. Gingrich will be the GOP nominee in 2008. Romney will be the GOP nominee in 2008. McCain did worse in New Hampshire in 2008 than he did in 2000. He'll lose to Romney. The GOP will take 90 seats in the House and will have a majority in the Senate [2010]. Chuckle. And unemployment would go over 10% after the November election!

Deficits are above 4.1 percent of Gross Domestic Product (GDP) for the next ten years and rising at the end of the budget window. Debt in the hands of the public doubles and the debt-to-GDP ratio rises above 87 percent. Net interest is almost 20 percent of revenues — even with big tax increases — in 2020. The result: downgrade as a sovereign borrower in 2018. That’s ugly.

At least Republicans are finally coming clean on their belief that those who can't afford their medical care should be left to die. I'd still like to see a major GOP figure, like say Paul Ryan, categorically state that "so be it" if seniors, children, or anyone else dies because they can't afford medical care. As I've long stated, the GOP is only pro-life up to the point of birth.

And her other medical needs would easily run her over $5k a month. There's no way she could ever buy insurance. Bottom line to folks like Dodge, let them die.

Look, not to make this too simple, but I've decided I need a brand new Lincoln to take my carcass back and forth to work. There's just one problem - all I can afford is my 12 year old Chrysler with 145,000 miles. So guess what I'm driving? Heath care is of course a much more emotional topic - since it involves life and death issues. But if you can get past the anecdotal stories, it really boils down to the same thing. Health care - just like the Lincoln - is extremely expensive. I don't think we're at the point where we expect the gov't to purchase a Lincoln for everyone (at least I hope not), but we do seem to be at the point where we expect it to buy universal heath care (which is MUCH more expensive). We all have stories to tell. Myself, I had open heart surgery in '05 with a quadruple bypass. My employer provided excellent insurance at the time, so all it ended up costing me was less than $1000 (plus the premiums I had been paying the 6 years before that.) Here I am, 6 years later, and I'm having heart issues again. Our current insurance has a $5,200 deductible. I cannot afford spending $5,200 at this time, so I have to make some choices. And, part of the reason I'm having the issues I'm having is because I didn't follow all the things I was supposed to do the last time (change diet, exercise more, etc.) My choices, my problem. So the bottom line - through a combination of factors - some hereditary, some self inflicted - I find myself at 58 years old with a life expectancy of maybe 65 or 70 at the outside. The luck of the draw. I wish people like you - though you are probably well-intentioned - would get it through your heads that government simply CANNOT provide cradle-to-grave care for everyone. It has NEVER worked, and it never WILL work. All we'll end up with is crappy health care, with lines and shortages. And a bankrupt government to boot.
So why are Conservatives so upset with abortion? I mean we're all going to die anyway? Countries with universal health insurance pay less than we do, and get better results (life expectancy, days sick, and so on). Conservatives want to ignore that because it doesn't fit with their ideology. Go look at Israel, Switzerland, Germany, Canada, Japan, Singapore, and so on. I also urge you to look at the economic constraints introduced by people too afraid to leave their jobs and start businesses because of fear of cost/loss of access to health insurance.

These countries differ in one important regard with the USA: They do not play at being world policeman. Get them to take on more of THAT responsibility, and then make your case.
That's true, but they also have socialized health insurance (not health care, but health insurance), and as a result, pay less and get more. I don't know about you, but I'd rather pay less and get more then pay more and get less.

The nations that are doing well on this earth are the nations with a mixed form of govt. It is not just economics doing better but their people are more free. Less crime and less people in jail than America. I know it is hard to leave behind things you tok for granted - but when a god is proven false you move on rather than double down on failure. There is less social mobility in the USA now than in Europe. It is not even a debatable - the ideology of the last 30 - 40 years that limited govt - no govt - unrestrained capitalism solves all problems has been proven a failure.

Since you're "only" 58, just wait to see what your premiums rise to when you hit 60, then imagine what they'd be at 65 without Medicare. If you're self-insured - doubtful given your health history - you can triple or quadruple those premiums, provided you could buy insurance from the "free market" at all. I'm not surprised you missed the point. Here - I'll explain it again. Life is unfair. I cannot expect everyone else (aka the government) to provide for me what I cannot provide for myself. Insurance companies - being that they are free market entities - will charge whatever they have to charge to stay in business. If I work for an employer who can provide group coverage (and I can afford the premiums), then I am lucky, indeed. If it gets too expensive, then I do without. Why should I expect some other entity like the government - which only makes money by printing it - to ultimately go broke by providing for me? You do understand that "broke" and "bankrupt" means that health care will be provided for no-one. Right? Why is that concept so difficult for you to understand?
I guess we'll also be shutting down the military then, since they run a huge deficit every single year. Get a grip. Medicare is going nowhere.

They do it by stiffing doctors and hospitals on reimbursements, which should make people like Dodge happy. It's funny that the people who were up in arms about the alleged "death panels" of Sarah Palin would happily tell everyone over 65 to just drop dead. I can't wait to see the ads they'll be running supporting this GOP plan.
How so? My health is - and should be - my own business. If I die in 7-12 more years, how will that really affect society? The only ones who will care will be my family. I don't expect - nor do I want - a card from Obama.
