Title: NY 26: Democrats should thank Paul Ryan

There is no way for Republicans to spin away Democrat Kathy Hochul’s victory in New York’s deeply red 26th congressional district. This is a big setback for Paul Ryan’s budget and a warning for Republican incumbents everywhere. This is simply not a district a Republican should have lost. Conservative overreach has clearly woken up Democrats and has gone down badly with independents.

The GOP can’t claim that Republican Jane Corwin lost because of a vote split with Tea Party candidate Jack Davis. With 87 percent of the precincts in, Hochul had 48 percent to Corwin’s 42 percent. Davis got just 9 percent, and the Green Party candidate picked up 1 percent. Let’s assume Hochul drops a point when the missing precints, which are mostly from Republican areas, are in. Republicans can’t claim that all of the votes that went to Davis, a former Democrat, would have gone to Corwin.

I live in this district and I could tell you that this article is complete BS. But you're a brain dead democrat zombie, so I might as well not waste my time.

The republican party is NY is a freaking joke, and all they wanted to do was find someone who could self-fund a campaign. They found that person in millionaire Corwin.

She clearly wasn't ready for prime time. She lost the election when her campaign manager tried to provoke Jack Davis into a fight, and it was caught on video. When the SHTF, she refused to fire him.

For her part, Hochul ran a good - albeit standard democrat BS campaign. You know, the usual "republicans are going to kill grandma" campaign. In this district with a high percentage of seniors, that resonated.

But Hochul is a very good public servant. Although I probably disagree with her politics on every issue, I've had personal dealings with the Erie County DMV (her responsibilty) and she really has turned that agency around.

So there are two reasons for the election result.

But be sure and watch MSNBC for your talking points. Moron.

Actually, some of the stories mirror what you said. That Corwin didn't believe early enough that people would take the Medicare situation seriously.

I also read that Hochul had a more personable style and wouldn't take it so personally if a non local does not pick up the nuances of things in that race you are able to see.

For example, I know first hand how stock raving insane Art Robinson who ran against Pete DeFazio is.

It was the strangest congressional race here I've seen. And I bet you would fine hard to believe some of the things I know about it.

Since I live here, it will be fun and instructive to watch how the national media will attempt to spin this. And people like go65 will completely buy into the spin. Hell, I won't be surprised if Obama comes in and takes credit.

The truth is simply that the republicans in general and Corwin in particular ran a terrible campaign. Sandy Beach (a local talk radio host and rabid republican) even came out and supported Hochul.

The crossover vote was almost all based upon Ryan's Medicare plan.

Again, you folks have totally misread the 2010 election.

No need to reform anything, right?

Let's just have the Feds print out a bunch more C notes with credit from the Chinese, and granny can get all the meds she wants.

That can go on forever, right?

You have a right to your opinion, as does anyone who takes stock in how the Ryan plan affected this race.

So I see no point in a fight. This sort of disagreement is no cause for rancor.

Maybe it played well in Dodge City in the 1880s, but this is a different time and place.

Your idiotic, lying statement illustrates why self-government ultimately does not work.

No one is campaigning on taking 80 and 90 year olds off medicare, but your party of corrupt liars like Pelosi, Reid and Obama SAY the other party is, and stupid welfare queens and corrupt union hacks beleive it.

And the other party, which seems happy to play second fiddle and get the crumbs the dems leave behind, is too incompetent - or not interested - in correcting the perception.

Enjoy the ride as the USA goes into bankruptcy and ultimately oblivion.

There is a lesson to be learned here (but you won't hear it on the media):

Obama can win next year, IF:
1. Republicans run a moderate or a liberal, and not a principled conservative
2. Republicans fail to challenge democrat lies - like they want to shove granny off the cliff

The best thing - perhaps the only thing - Obama has going for him is that he will be running against a republican.

So don't count him out.

Here's some of your predictions, Boofer:

Bush will beat Gore by 9% and by well over 100 in the EC.

Bush will defeat Kerry in a landslide.

The Dems will not take one chamber let alone two in 2006.

Ken Blackwell be the next governor of Ohio [2006].

McCain will never be the nominee in 2008. If you want to know why, look at South Carolina in 2000.

Hillary won't seek the nomination [2008].

Gingrich will be the GOP nominee in 2008.

Romney will be the GOP nominee in 2008.

McCain did worse in New Hampshire in 2008 than he did in 2000. He'll lose to Romney.

The GOP will take 90 seats in the House and will have a majority in the Senate [2010].

I think #2 is the biggest potential failure next year. Thats basically what that idiot McCain did.

But the end game remains the same, its about the economy.

If unemployment is 8% or greater, Owe-bama most certainly gets fired.

If its not, he has a chance, but a slim one, of being rehired.

Thats how I see it.

Did you not read the plan? Anyone age 55 or younger would get a voucher to buy private insurance once they qualify for medicare. Meaning that folks currently under 55 will, in their 80's and 90's, be shopping around for non- existent insurance.

Ugly. That’s the best spin one can put on the just-released Congressional Budget Office analysis of President Obama’s budget. Deficits are above 4.1 percent of Gross Domestic Product (GDP) for the next ten years and rising at the end of the budget window. Debt in the hands of the public doubles and the debt-to-GDP ratio rises above 87 percent. Net interest is almost 20 percent of revenues — even with big tax increases — in 2020. The result: downgrade as a sovereign borrower in 2018. That’s ugly.

At least Republicans are finally coming clean on their belief that those who can't afford their medical care should be left to die.

I'd still like to see a major GOP figure, like say Paul Ryan, categorically state that "so be it" if seniors, children, or anyone else dies because they can't afford medical care.

As I've long stated, the GOP is only pro-life up to the point of birth.

Nope. I've got a relative who is 90, with leukemia, her treatments are costing $6k a month, medicare covers $3k. And her other medical needs would easily run her over $5k a month.
