Lottery winner Leroy Fick is ruffling feathers in his home state of Michigan over his continued use of food stamps. The 59-year-old won $2 million in the state's Make Me Rich lotto last June. But the windfall still hasn't stopped him from using the Bridgeport Card, Michigan's version of food stamps.
"He is showing off a new convertible in the parking lot, then comes in store and pays with a Bridge card!" exclaimed one outraged resident. "Really annoying -- he has the money, and my kids are eating Ramen noodles."
"You're going to sit there and make me feel bad -- you aren't going to do it," Fick fired back. "It ain't going to happen, so you might as well just ship on out of here."
Fick says his actions aren't illegal and that he should still be able to use the bridge card since the IRS took about a million dollars of his winnings for taxes. Fick's attorney, John Wilson agreed.
"He's not trying to cheat the state. Based on his income, he's eligible," Wilson explained, adding that Fick is not leading the life of a millionaire.
"He lives a simple life," he said. "He doesn't even have the Internet."
