The reviews are starting to come in about Republican Mitt Romney's health care plan and the central question seems to be: What about the law you signed as governor of Massachusetts? Romney, a leading contender for the GOP presidential nomination, gave a preview of the speech and PowerPoint presentation he'll make later today in an op-ed column for USA TODAY. In the column, he makes little mention of the Massachusetts health care plan that's a model for the federal law he now says he wants to repeal.

It's amazing that he has to run away from a popular program to appeal to the neanderthals in the GOP.

Romney's ego wouldn't let him do what he needed to as it relates to being the nominee in 2012. Damn shame, because I do believe he is levels of magnitude above anyone in either party as to how to fix the economy, and deal with the deficit. Oh well.

But he hasn't overcome what caused him to lose in 2008. He's made it worse by not admitting the mistake in the first place, at least loudly enough to get through to the GOP base.

He has the opportunity to benefit by positioning himself as the sane guy in a room of lunatics, the same sort of strategy that has boosted Obama's approval to 8 points better than Reagan at similar points in their presidency, given him far better ratings than Republicans, and are allowing him to demonstrate that he could even potentially win Texas against any of the current crop of GOP contenders. The GOP appears to have taken the lesson of Angle, O'Donnell, Buck, etc. as "we need to get more crazy!" Romney's biggest threat comes from Mitch Daniels, not from any of the current crop of GOP nuts or has- beens.

He has a big lead in NH (more than 20 points) per the May 5th Suffolk University poll. And he trails Huckabee by 1% in South Carolina according to the April 26 Winthrop University Poll. If Huckabee doesn't run, and it doesn't look like he will, Romney is your front-runner.

You do realize that Rasmussen was the 2nd least accurate polling organization covering the 2010 elections, with a 4-5 point GOP lean. The only reason I post their tracking poll is to show that GOP'rs are in trouble when even Rasmussen shows a bounce.
