WASHINGTON (AP) -- The House Republican budget would leave up to 44 million more low-income people uninsured as the federal government cuts states' Medicaid funding by about one-third over the next 10 years, nonpartisan groups said in a report issued Tuesday.

The analysis by the Kaiser Family Foundation and the Urban Institute concluded that Medicaid's role as the nation's safety net health care program would be "significantly compromised ... with no obvious alternative to take its place," if the GOP budget is adopted.

Yep.

House GOP Passes 2012 Budget Resolution

The Republican-led House passed on Friday its fiscal 2012 budget resolution, which cuts $5.8 trillion from current spending levels over the next 10 years and reforms Medicare and Medicaid, a clear display of the GOP's vision for policy and spending. The plan in its current form has little chance of passing the Senate, but is another shot in what will be a continuing battle over spending priorities.

The spending plan, largely crafted by House Budget Committee Chairman Paul Ryan, R-Wis., passed on a nearly party line vote of 235-193. The budget resolution comes as the nation’s budget deficit is expected to remain historically high, at more than $1 trillion for the current and next fiscal year. During the 2010 midterm elections, Republicans campaigned on cutting spending and reducing the deficit, which gave them control of the House and increased their numbers in the Senate. The spending blueprint reflects their efforts to keep those promises, which they also believe is good politics.

Nope...thats not the annual House budget.

Dumbass. Its a non binding 'see we held a vote' RESOLUTION.

The first GOP Budget will be voted upon this coming FALL.

btw, it will be the first HOUSE budget in two years, due to Pelosi Galore's incompetence last year.

Which is what Kaiser analyzed - specifically the plans to turn medicaid into a block grant program and to repeal the ACA.

I assume you didn't read the study before you commented on it? (Rhetorical question, no need for you to answer).

The major causes of debt are entitlement programs -- medicaid, medicare, SS. These are going to HAVE to be addressed to avoid National bankruptcy. So the GOP is floating some measures to do so, as token as they might be. So your solution to the problem is to demonize the GOP rather than offer any real solutions yourself (a rhetorical question; no need for you to answer).

Now, I know I’m not going to change the minds of any of the True Believers…those who read all of Reverend Al’s sermons, and say things like, “You know, global warming can mean warmer OR colder, wetter OR drier, cloudier OR sunnier, windier OR calmer, …”. Can I get an ‘amen’??

Of course it is. Same playbook, different decade. They did it with Reagan in 83. They did it with Bush in 05.

It worked both times.

What they fail to realize is the voters are more concerned about the insane deficits run up the past 36 months than they ever have been in history.

The story is just a ploy to get people to believe we have to keep spending money like a drunken sailor and tax the piss out of the rich... Or else a whole lotta people are gonna die from lack of healthcare..... LOL..... Same old tired BS argument they've been using for 30-40 years.....

Now if this article is also predicting that unemployment is going to skyrocket then it would be "somewhat" believeable..... If they are predicting ObozoCare is gonna cause it, then it would be "MORE" believeable....

You want more people to be able to afford health insurance????? Then create jobs for them, not handouts from the taxpayer....and repeal ObozoCare... But that isn't gonna happen until Obozo and his henchmen are gone.....

They want you dependent on them plain and simple, "dey's the Mastas, yous the "Slave"....... You're just a stupid drone to them, they only want your vote....

You might want to read some of the analysis of the Ryan plan. It doesn't cut costs, it shifts them onto seniors and the poor.

If you want to stop "spending money like a drunken sailor", adopt single-payer and let the government negotiate with providers / pharmas like the rest of the world. We pay more for health care and get less than just about every western nation. The GOP's plan would raise those costs while further cutting care.

That is exactly correct. We spend more per capita than any other country and 42 million people don't have coverage. Americans are already paying the cost of universal health care, just not getting it.

So how do you plan to get "GOOD" healthcare while telling the doctors to stick their profits up their ass????? That's why some doctors are already dropping Medicare patients...... But then again a bunch of the doctors (estimated at over 300,000) will retire and tell the government to stick it up their ass!!!!! So that means a whole bunch of office help become suddenly unemployed and getting a doctors appointment will take 6-12 months......

By telling insurance providers to get out of town.

Last year -- as the number of Americans without health insurance grew to nearly 51 million -- the five largest for-profit insurers (Aetna, CIGNA, Humana, UnitedHealth and WellPoint) had combined profits of $11.7 billion.

When one of the uninsured 20 million falls off his roof and breaks his back, who pays for his health care?

As for the rest - you would rather see 12 million go without health insurance coverage than allow an illegal alien get medical care?

"Re "More family doctors charging patients annual fee" (May 3): It should come as no surprise that some physicians are resorting to charging an annual fee in order to make ends meet, as the reimbursements we receive from both public and private insurance programs continue to trend downward while the amount of time spent on paperwork increases.

And, yes, this could continue to drive up costs, but the fault lies not with physicians. Rather, it is our fragmented, inefficient, wasteful, profit-driven health care system that has created this situation..."

I used to do equipment maintenance at one of the Ohio Edison Offices a few years back. They are owned by First Energy Corporation, in fact the company I worked for at that time was also owned by First Energy.

But anyway, I was talking to one of the guys in the Funds Office about profits one day. He asked me what my company normally tries to get in profits and I told him 15-20%. He kind of laughed and said if they clear less than 40% there is hell to pay, having to explain to First Energy why profits were so low...... Then he asked me why First Energy owned us when we has such a low margin.... I didn't know what to say to him at the time but found out the truth later. Our company president just up and resigned one day, he was pissed off at First Energy. I come to find out First Energy was interferring in the normal day to day operation of the company by insisting we up our profit margin to 38-42%!!!! Well to make a long story short when we started quoting jobs to our customers at First Energys rate,we started loosing our customers in droves. And that's why I eventually had to get a job with another Mechanical Contractor..... It wasn't long after that First Energy sold them to a private investor.....

Electricity rates for California industry are significantly higher than those in most other states, notes Jack Stewart, the manufacturers’ president. By law, he added, utilities such as PG&E receive a guaranteed profit of 11 percent.

Up to 44M more uninsured under GOP budget

This is a completely meaningless statistic.

Insurance is not the END goal. The END goal is good health. Insurance is one means of getting there. There are others, like regular exercise and a healthy diet.

Prior to the federal government getting their sticky fingers in healthcare with Medicare and Medicaid, healthcare cost far less as a percentage of GDP than it does now (6% versus 17%). We were also generally healthier.

It's a complete LIE that the majority of the elderly were dieing in the streets prior to Medicare and Medicaid.

Go ask anyone in their 70s or 80s whether life was better in the 1950s than it is now. The overwhelming answer will be yes.

The government has destroyed the the healthcare system in the country. Now they are inventing false measures to justify more destruction.

No thanks. Been there. Done that.

Life was different in the 50s, that doesn't mean it was better.

One dad on our block died in his 30s of a heart attack leaving two small kids behind. Our little local hospital were he died is now big, both in size and in reputation as a world class center for heart and vascular care.

I suspect tort reform ain't the answer.

I also suspect that universal health insurance would cut back on the number of medical malpractice suits and the amount of awards.

And do you know who is against tort reform-----the Dumbassocrats......

And do you know why that is????? Because most of the campaign contributions from lawyers go to them.... So in return they have loosened laws up concerning lawsuits, so the lawyers can make a killing off of the people in this country.... especially by ambulance chasing!!!!!

Do you know what the average hourly rate is to go see a lawyer????? Right at $300 per hr!!!!!

universal health insurance

And since we are on this subject of Universal healthcare, just what exactly do you think it should cover??????? A few things, many things, everything?????

Well just go out and get a price quote on an healthcare insurance policy sometime.... You will find it is cheaper for policies with fewer items of coverage, and more expensive as you go up in the amount of items you want covered.... It's just like your house and car policies, the more you want covered the more expensive it's going to be.....

So for those of you who think that universal healthcare for everybody in this country that covers everything is going to be cheap, well think again.... It's already expensive as hell now just wait till it's supposedly free!!!!!

A friend pays $850 a month just for herself.

That's has got to be one of those cleaver sayings people hear and repeat mindlessly just because it sounds good. If you thought about it, you'd realize it doesn't make sense - other oecd countries with universal health care AND better outcomes than the US spend less per capita than we do. They cover ALL their people and we leave out 51 million.

That supposedly free stuff is just plain stupid. If anyone believed that, we'd have universal health care right now instead of arguing about cost.
