President Barack Obama added a new applause line in his money trail stump speech: the death of Osama bin Laden. At previous fundraisers, Mr. Obama barely mentioned foreign policy, if at all. But this time, in between putting two women on the Supreme Court and calling for immigration reform, he offered a huge shout out to last weeks operation.
And because of the extraordinary bravery of the men and women who wear this nations uniform and the outstanding work of our intelligence agencies, Osama Bin Laden will never again threaten the United States of America. We couldnt be prouder of them, he told some 750 people at a fund-raiser in Austin, Texas, Tuesday.
The audience cheered wildly. Earlier, a man in the audience got one of the biggest cheers of the event after he cried out, Thank you for gettin Bid Laden!
The White House has said Mr. Obama wants to be careful not to spike the ball in celebrating the bin Laden death. After several events last week focused on the killing, senior administration officials said not to expect many more.
Mr. Obama tempered the celebration with some caution.
Weve still got more work to do, he said. Weve still got more work to do when it comes to keeping America safe and making sure Americas prosperous.
