SACRAMENTO, Calif. – Dozens of California teachers rallied Monday in downtown San Francisco, launching a week of statewide protests over the threat of deep budget cuts to public education.

The demonstrations and teach-ins were planned as schools face the prospect of mass layoffs, program cuts and shorter school years. The protests will culminate Friday with a sit-in at the state Capitol.

"We're here to make a statement," said Dennis Kelly, president of United Educators of San Francisco, which represents more than 6,000 employees of the San Francisco Unified School District.

Kelly was among about 100 school personnel who gathered at 5:30 a.m. and marched to school district headquarters. About 60 then boarded a chartered bus to Sacramento to protest and lobby lawmakers.

What's the dollar amounts paid for public education?

When I was a kid going to school in northern California in the beginning of the New Math era, we were expected to, and did, provide our own school supplies and our parents provided us with a bag lunch better than anything the school could provide.

Now, I pass school supplies drives run by schools, begging for paper and pencils. WTF? Where does the money go? I'll tell you: into bank accounts as graft. They claim they cannot provide lunches to the children. I say that is the parent's job. Good money after bad.

No, Destro, it sounds like a prosperous time before the radical left destroyed this country through perverting its education system. We once had an education system the envy of the world. You and yours couldn't stand that so you destroyed it with commie pos indoctrinators and protected them with unions.

Currently California spends $7,500 (rounded off) per student; a local private school charges $33,500 (rounded off) per student. If it is true that you get what you pay for, which school do you think does a better job? If the school gets to pick and choose which students it will accept, which school has a better outcome in terms of test scores?

But then I'm sure you support the murder of pre-born children. You must if you support the usurper. You and war both are the two most disgusting pigs on this board.

That's the one thing I could never figure out about the Dumbassocrats, why they love abortion...... You would think that will all the "EMPATHY" they exude they would be against it????

More single moms to give mega handouts to.. This also encourages the father to not take responsibility for her and the child through marriage, or pay child support....

More government sponsored orphanages...... That way they get an early start on brainwashing the kids into socialism.

More lazy, stupid POS Democrat voters on Welfare, Food stamps, WIC....etc..etc..

More losers on the dole means they have to collect more taxes....

I mean what's not to like if your a Libtard politician, you get the best of all worlds.... They should be orgasmic about being pro-life, but they aren't...... WHY?????

Kind of funny fact, the countries with the best performing educational system are socialist (Sputnik made Americans realize this) and they teach stuff that freaks out the right like sex education aka biology and evolution which are part of the curriculum from an early age.

I know of no country on earth other than the crazed Muslim nations where the educational syste approaches the American right wing ideal (no govt funding for example) where evolution is not taught in school, and there is no sex education or operates along the American right wing ideology. Somalia's educational system (lack there of) most closely resembles the home school ideal of the crazed American right wing.

The closest you have to a conservative American ideal is the Catholic educational system but they teach evolution in those so I don't know if they should count and a lot of their educational funding does come from donations not the free market.

I am still waiting for the Republicans to show us which nation on earth has their ideal education system?

None. That is why they want to retreat to some imagined 1950s era educational system from the American past. Which is funny because that was when the Federal govt got involved in education due to Sputnik and made the system more socialized.

The right wing goobers don't live in reality. They live in a fantasy world which they made up.

Who knows????

But that's the way it has been since the beginning of time, if you didn't want a child you didn't perform the act that makes them.....

In fact more people are pro-life now than has been the case for the last 15-20 years..... maybe they are getting tired of all the "sluts" running around.... who knows for sure.....

A child exists after being born. What is in her womb is various things at various stages of development.

Semantics.....

Everyone has a different opinion on this. Some people consider a fetus to be a baby from the moment of conception. Others consider the fetus to be a baby roughly 10 days after conception at implantation, where the fertilised egg implants in the lining of the womb. Other consider the fetus to be a baby at around 6 weeks, when there is a visible heart beat. Some consider the fetus to be a baby at around 16 weeks when you can start to feel the first movements. Others don't consider the fetus to be a baby until the abortion time limit has passed, so around 20-24 weeks. Some only consider the fetus to be a baby once he or she is born.

All of the above information is correct but leaves out one crucial medical fact. Which is that of the stages of Human Development. So, in terms of human development an embryo is not a fetus, like a fetus is not a baby, like a baby is not a toddler, like a toddler is not a young adult... etc. Basically if you find the definition of Embryo it is: a developing human from conception to 8 weeks. The definition of Fetus is: a developing human from 8 weeks to birth. Then you enter the neonate, infant, toddler, play age...etc.etc. stages. Those are the Stages Of Human Development. So... when Pro-choice advocates say, "it's not a baby!" They actually are correct. And when Anti-abortion advocates say, "you are killing a developing human being" They are actually correct as well. The unborn humans are in their own stages of human development. And, the fetus is not a baby yet... just like a baby is not a toddler yet... but all humans are in their own stages of human development.

Therefore, I will add this: currently, it is legal to end the life of the developing human when they are in pre-viable developmental stages in utero.
