Those of us who grew up in the jet fighter age are always shocked at how small WW-2 fighters were. They look so big in the movies. Beings the P51 was a proven design I guess marrying the 2 fuselages together was easier than doing a major redesign to make 1 large cockpit (like the P38) instead of using the 2 existing cockpits.....
