Title: A Donald Trump-Mitt Romney showdown in New Hampshire (Trumps Proofer Strategy Working)

Looks like Donald Trump's win-the-birthers strategy is working in New Hampshire — and that’s coming at the expense of front-runner Mitt Romney.

Romney leads the first-in-the-nation primary contest in a multitude of scenarios involving difference candidates, often by as much as a 2-1 margin, according to a survey out Tuesday from Public Policy Polling. But when Trump gets into the race, Romney’s edge shrinks to 6 points, 27 percent to 21 percent.

If Trump isn't included in the survey, Romney draws 32 percent of the vote, with Mike Huckabee a distant second at 15 percent.

The difference is the birthers: The Democratic polling shop found that Trump leads Romney among those who doubt President Barack Obama’s citizenship 22 percent to 21 percent. A previous PPP survey found that 42 percent of New Hampshire GOPers don't believe Obama was born in America.

The survey of 384 Republican primary voters in the state has a sampling error of plus or minus 5 percent.

The thing is, Romney is the guy that would tear Owe-bama apart on economic issues and deficit spending.

And Trump isn't going to run for two reasons. 1) Financial disclosure. 2)Romney looking at him in a debate and saying 'So, Donald, please explain to America how you managed to bankrupt your casino....Twice.'

Mark it down. Trump will not enter the primaries.

I hear you knockin...go back where you been....

Trumps reply would be. America is bankrupt. I know how to rebuild from bankruptcy. I've done it. All you ever did is ride on your daddys success.

Romney doesn't resonate with the tea party types. He is a liberal Republican.

He is an opportunist which may be Republican and may be liberal but I doubt it.

He's insuring the silly season will be just another circus.

I think it won't be either of those two, but it's fun to speculate and Donald has brought some new energy to the table. I give him credit for that. Romney has some great points, but he is too status quo looking to capture the middle of the country.

Romney has that albatross "RomneyCare" hanging around his neck, he's too RINO...

That is sort of what I mean. I don't think a RINO is going to make it this time. They might actually have to consider a conservative. :) That would be nice for a change.

Thanks for correction. I read that badly. I should have actually read A K A Stone's comment as opposed to the headline. I thought I was talking about Trump.

As for Romney. Certainly liberal and an opportunist as well. I wouldn't vote for him; he makes me itch, too slick.

No, he just walks away from it, leaving the dumb bastards that invested with him holding the bag. Trump doesn't risk his money in any of his "brilliant" ventures.

No chance, conservatives won't vote for him. A third party win by (Ron or Rand) Paul/Donald Trump is more likely.

I didn't say Romney could win the primaries. The problem is still the same as it was in 2008. A Huckabee splits the Conservative vote, and we get a nominee nobody actually wanted, in 08 McCain. Despite the fact Romney could have won the general election cycle, or at least made it crystal clear to votes Owe-bama simply wasn't qualified to be POTUS.

Romney hurt himself badly by not walking away from the MA healthcare fiasco in the two plus years since that election cycle. No denying it.

But the fact remains he could beat the hell out of Owe-bama in any debate on economic policy and the dangers of deficit spending.

I hear you knockin...go back where you been....

Which is why the powers that be won't let there be any debate so restricted...unless you can wear an ear-wig and/or tele-prompter.

Think back to 2008 and Romney's milquetoast style of debating...it cost him the primaries.

Thanks, did not know that. Never watched the primary debates. Don't like the guy but assumed he was slick enough to pull off a debate. Needs to get the gel out of his hair and expell the Mormon stick up his ass.

McCain ran away with two crucial debates...in a December '07 Iowa debate Huckabee made Romney look like a fool which probably cost him the caucus there...

But the two January debates one of which was in NH...the other was in SC ...were won by McCain and he went on to beat Romney in his own backyard in NH.

Some people talk about Guiliani's decision to focus on FL. I believe that the crucial error of 2008 was Romney focusing on Neveda rather than SC. With Romney out, whomever emerged as the SC winner, Huckabee or McCain, was going to be a stronger candidate than one who had focused on a minor primary and won virtually unopposed as Romeny did in NV.

Well, I'd have to say you'd be wrong. If I had no agreeable choice, I wouldn't vote.

I wouldn't vote for Romney if Dick Cheney had a gun to my head. I cannot and will not vote for a liberal. Or even a moderate. That's why we are where we are. At some point, you have to say enough and I've reached that point.

I would hope you'd at least show up and write your own name in, if nothing else.

I understand exactly where you are coming from, felt the same way in the spring of 2008 myself.
