The Tea Party Express, showing it isn’t partial to every Republican, wants to boot Utah Sen. Dick Lugar out of office. Amy Kremer of the Tea Party Express tells Newsmax: “Senator Dick Lugar is just the type of Republican that Harry Reid and President Obama love: the kind that votes nothing at all like a conservative.” That said, the tea party juggernaut declares it is ready to “kick” him and his ilk out of office. Lugar is currently the third most senior senator and the most senior Republican member of the Senate, arguably putting him in place to be elected President pro tempore of the Senate should Republicans gain control of the body. The Indiana lawmaker was elected to the United States Senate in 1976 where he served as chairman of the powerful Senate Committee on Foreign Relations from 1985 to 1987 and 2003 to 2007. Lugar has been noted for his drive to dismantle nuclear, biological, and chemical weapons around the world. “Lugar is a career politician who has repeatedly criticized the tea party movement and grown progressively liberal over his six terms in office,” fires Kremer, who plans the creation of a special war chest dedicated to the politician’s ouster. She provides a list of his purported political sins that make him a special enemy of the conservative spearhead. He voted for the bailouts. He opposed a ban on earmarks. He supports amnesty. He supports heavy-handed gun control. He scores a pathetic 17/100 Conservative Action Score. He voted to confirm hyper-liberal Supreme Court justices Sonya Sotomayor and Elena Kagen. He refused to sign a legal brief affirming Obamacare was unconstitutional. He voted for the FDA Farm Takeover. “Incredibly,” she says, “Lugar even endorsed Barack Obama in 2008, saying he agreed with his defeatist approach to foreign policy. "One thing is clear — Dick Lugar needs to go. We need to build a massive War Chest to win more campaigns for constitutional conservatives, and defeat people like Dick Lugar.” Lugar announced in mid-January that he plans to seek re-election next year. His office says a vigorous campaign is in the works and that their candidate is committed to winning a seventh term in Senate. At that time, Lugar, who has generally won re-election easily since the 1980s, told reporters at a breakfast hosted by The Christian Science Monitor in Washington that he takes the opposition seriously. Lugar has carved out a bipartisan reputation during his decades in Washington, working with Democrats on a variety of issues, particularly foreign policy initiatives according to The Associated Press. Lugar's support for such things as the DREAM Act, which would help some illegal immigrants who came to the U.S. as children obtain a path to citizenship, and his votes for President Barack Obama's Supreme Court nominees have upset many conservatives in Indiana, particularly those aligned with the tea party movement. He has also supported the New START arms reduction treaty signed by Obama and Russian President Dmitry Medvedev in April and has expressed support for renewing the 1994 assault weapons ban in light of the recent shootings in Arizona.
