Title: Ohioans Having Incredible Buyers Remorse Over Gov. Kasich

Ohio Gov. John Kasich (R)

Just a few months into his first term, Ohio Gov. John Kasich (R) appears to be immensely unpopular with his constituents, a clear majority of whom disapprove of his job performance, according to a PPP poll of registered voters. What's more, if a do-over election were held today Kasich would lose -- by a resounding 15-point margin.

Kasich barely defeated incumbent Gov. Ted Strickland (D) last November, winning by a slim 49% to 47%. But if they could do it all over again, 55% of voters now say they would vote for Strickland, while only 40% say they'd go with Kasich.

Kasich's short tenure has been marked by several mini-scandals, including an incident last month when he called a police officer who issued him a ticket an idiot -- three times, on camera. Then came the contentious budget debate, when he forcefully pushed for a bill to strip state employees of their collective bargaining rights. That bill goes even further than the one recently passed in Wisconsin, which prompted weeks of enormous protests and has sparked a recall petition for the state's republican senators.

Kasich's approval rating now appears to be deeply underwater. In the poll, only 35% of respondents said they approve of his job performance, while 54% sad they disapprove. In a University of Cincinnati poll released Monday, 30% approved of Kasich's job performance, compared to 52% who disapproved.

If there was any doubt that Kasich's showdown with unions irked his constituents, the PPP poll also addressed that issue, finding that voters overwhelmingly sided with the unions.

Nearly six in ten said they supported the unions in the budget battle, while 37% said they backed Kasich. And specifically, 54% said they would support repealing S.B. 5 -- the union-busting budget bill -- if it comes up for a vote next fall.

The PPP poll was conducted March 10-13 among 559 voters. It has a margin of error of 4.1%. (1 image)

I'm curious as to who they polled because most of the unemployment around here has been caused by the unions. There used to be 5 or 6 major auto related plants and dozens of smaller ones that supply parts to the major ones in Dayton, and now there's 1 major left. It makes diesel engines.....

Guess they like being unemployed. If the rest of ohio is like Dayton then most of the unions left are the government ones. They have a bunch of real losers in them so it's no great loss.

How about this for wasting Ohio taxpayer money: I used to have a County contract that comprised almost 30 buildings. My job was to do maintainance and repairs on specific pieces of equipment. The county employed numerous employees who were "Supposedly" qualified to do this type of work. All of them I talked to didn't even know the basics of their jobs. I have no doubt they couldn't have even gotten a job being a janitor anywhere else, but they were proud government union employees. So, in essence the taxpayers were paying for these services "TWICE", (the county and my company) to maintain all of the buildings. (we charge right at $100 an hr per person for labor). No wonder they had a large budget deficit every year. Well the people finally got pissed off at the Democratic mayor who was doing this crap and booted her ass. They elected a Republican to fix the problem..... Sounds familiar doesn't it?????

The thing I find most curious is there were no demonstrations around here against what Kasich is doing.... heard of a few in Columbus but local TV portrayed them as being minor. Nothing like Wisconsin.....

how is that the unions fault? did they own and manage the plants and simply impose contracts on management?

Yeah, the unions are an all purpose bogyman for people like you. This was not a poll that picked and chose who to ask, and it generated many news stories and reflects what is general public sentiment in Ohio.

how is that the unions fault?

Their demands got to be excessive over the years and some stupid idiot in management caved in because they constantly threatened to go out on strike, well that was a recipe for disaster.

Their automotive products became too highly priced, this made them noncompetitive in the market place, hence they lost some of the their market share. This resulted in less demand for their automotive products for 2 reasons, one because it was over priced and 2 it was also of lower quality than their competitors product. The management finally figured this out and sent a lot of the factories out of the country for "cheaper labor". This lead to shutting down local plants and saying "Sayonara Baby" to their employees.

If the 2 sides had worked rationally to an agreement good for both sides then this post would be moot because they would still be here, but they're not!!!!! What else has this done, union employment is down about 6 or 7% nationwide in the last 20 years and is still dropping...... why??????...... Unrealistic pay demands and outrageous union dues.... Still pricing themselves out of the market......guess they'll never learn......

Yeah, the unions are an all purpose bogyman for people like you.

So did you know I belong to a private union?????

Their stupidity led to a lot of my unions employees having to go to other states to "try" and find work....... along with a whole lot of other non-union employees.

Washington (CNSNews.com) – Likely Republican presidential candidate Herman Cain supports ending all federal funding to Planned Parenthood, an abortion business that he said was founded to target African Americans and is continuing that mission.

Why is it then that we always here "it's the union's fault", it takes two to sign those contracts, and unions weren't behind the failure of automakers to shift to smaller cars and deliver compelling designs.

Since January 3, 2011, Republicans have controlled the power of the purse.

So why is is Liberals "Defend" the unions when they have no clue what they are talking about????? Kinda like defending your Welfare masters isn't it......

If the management would have done a Reagan and fired some of them then the problem as is currently is wouldn't exist, but they were a big bunch of pussies so............ it is what it is.... Hope the union guys like seeing Paco and Luiz taking home their money now.......

So why is it when the unions illegally got control of the car companies the first thing they did was start building "MORE" larger vehicles in defiance of their leash holders?????? They sell so much better!!!! More profits!!!!!

So what are their masters doing in return, driving up gas prices so that those vehicle will now sit on the lots...... And on top of that all of those POS battery cars are sitting too

Great partnership!!!!! Buncha pendejos!!!!!! Typical Liberals!!!!!! I believe the name for your disease is called "Cranial rectal inversion"!!!!!!!

Most liberals I know defend the right of people to unionize (Reagan defended it too).

Since January 3, 2011, Republicans have controlled the power of the purse.

Most liberals I know defend the right of people to unionize (Reagan defended it too).

Why is that, are they too stupid to hold down a real job??? For the "most part" that's the only reason to be union nowadays....

Unions were a good idea when they were first started because, the laws protecting workers sucked. Bad pay, long hours, no safety features and no future.. Now the laws cover just about everything a worker can experience so they are really not needed for the most part.....

The biggest current problem with "MOST" of the unions is they go out of their way to protect the most useless employees they have. People who should be cleaning toilets or panhandling on a street corner are instead making $100K a year for being a useless POS. This give the union as a whole a bad name with employers and so consequently are cutting the throats of their good employees!!!

A lot of current union employees would love to be non-union because of how useless the upper management has become (looking out for themselves not the employees). Some of them are very smart and see the unions holding them down instead of holding them up. They would also like to keep the $300 a month they pay in dues for other more important things (instead of helping elect retards)....

Some powerful people in the union leadership are seeing themselves rapidly becoming irrelevant, and they don't like it. They love their power and income and they don't want to lose that (no matter who they have to screw to do it).. So, since the Democrats seem to love having their palms greased for "favors" the union bosses jumped staight into bed with them and said "Protect my position of power for me and I will help get you elected". All this is at the expense of the people they are "supposed" to be helping and protecting in the name of "brotherhood".... (Yea right what a bunch of bullshit). Anyway, a lot of union employees have lost their jobs and pensions and there are a lot more about to suffer the same fate......

Reagan was the head of the Actors Guild union so I can see why he defended them. They are a small group of people who needed some kind of representation. I can also still see the need for them for other small groups too, some who aren't covered by current laws.

Moral of the story; if you are good at your job you can make good money working for a private employer. "Most" employers will pay top dollar and good benefits to attract top employees. So if you're smart and can market yourself, you can be very succesful without being a union employee....

Bad pay, long hours, no safety features and no future.. Now the laws cover just about everything a worker can experience so they are really not needed for the most part.....

A friend was working in a non-union shop in right-to-work-state, Nevada. He was told to go up on the roof to do something (I've forgotten the details) no safety equipment, and fell through the roof landing on the shop floor below. His back was broken.

The hospital in Reno was able to stabilize him so that he could be air-lifted to a hospital in Colorado where he spent the next 7 months. Through his lawyer he found out that a man had died in an identical accident working for the same company the year before.

While I was living in Reno, a company that manufactured explosives blew up killing several people. It turned out that safety regulations were posted as required by law, in English - the employees were Mexicans hired on the cheap - they neither spoke nor read English. In addition, they were paid by the piece which was illegal for that kind of work. A donation was taken up to send the bodies back to their families in Mexico - the company wouldn't even pay for that.

You might be surprised to know that there is a gold mine outside of Fernley, Nevada that hires experienced men at minimum wage to do a variety of dangerous jobs including setting and detonating explosives. No holidays, no benefits, and no one to make sure they are properly trained.

It is all well and good to say there are laws - but with no one watching to see the laws are enforced, they're useless to the people who are injured and killed.

Have you ever heard of OSHA? As far as I know all companies nationwide are subject to OSHA regulations and are subject to big fines and federal prosecution if they don't comply with these standards.

www.osha.gov/dcsp/osp /stateprogs/nevada.html

This is an excerpt from the above posted Nevada OSHA website:

Nevada adopts federal OSHA standards by reference and enforces OSHA standards contained within 29 CFR, parts 1910 (General Industry), 1926 (Construction) and 1928 (Agriculture). In addition, Nevada has adopted additional requirements to include: safety programs, cranes, steel erection, construction projects, asbestos, explosives, ammonium perchlorate and photovoltaic system projects. Nevada's Occupational Safety and Health Standards and additional requirements can be accessed on the Nevada OSHA website.

If what you posted above is true then someone isn't doing their job and somebody needs to "drop a dime on them" to OSHA and have them investigated.... Now if these people are illegal aliens well then all I can say is good luck, they shouldn't be here in the first place......

Yep. A federal investigation was conducted and the company was fined a million dollars, four people died - six others were injured.

I don't know if they were legal or not. Of course if they were illegal then the company was breaking the law when it hired them. In any case, the workers paid with their lives while the company whined and made lame excuses.

The company said the findings were insulting to immigrant workers and the explosion must have been the work of saboteurs.

I doubt that would ever happen because the people who are writing these laws have to have someway to justify their existence. (but thats another story). Most people who are working under those laws are already non-union. Almost 90%.. So what power do the unions really have left other than thuggery and intimidation?????? (Like our current administration).

Oh thats right the power to take their employees dues (and steal part of their pensions) so they can use them to help elect idiots who will help them keep their power.... It's not about their employees it's about the bosses losing their power, pure plain and simple..... Greed and power.... (sound familiar)??

My how noble of them!!!! The fellowship and brotherhood they spout is just so overwhelming!!!!!

I disagree - the unions, by their fundraising, maintain a balance. Absent the unions those protections go away.
