Title: Ohioans Having Incredible Buyers Remorse Over Gov. Kasich

Ohio Gov. John Kasich (R)

Just a few months into his first term, Ohio Gov. John Kasich (R) appears to be immensely unpopular with his constituents, a clear majority of whom disapprove of his job performance, according to a PPP poll of registered voters. What's more, if a do-over election were held today Kasich would lose -- by a resounding 15-point margin.

Kasich barely defeated incumbent Gov. Ted Strickland (D) last November, winning by a slim 49% to 47%. But if they could do it all over again, 55% of voters now say they would vote for Strickland, while only 40% say they'd go with Kasich.

Kasich's short tenure has been marked by several mini-scandals, including an incident last month when he called a police officer who issued him a ticket an idiot -- three times, on camera. Then came the contentious budget debate, when he forcefully pushed for a bill to strip state employees of their collective bargaining rights. That bill goes even further than the one recently passed in Wisconsin, which prompted weeks of enormous protests and has sparked a recall petition for the state's republican senators.

Kasich's approval rating now appears to be deeply underwater. In the poll, only 35% of respondents said they approve of his job performance, while 54% sad they disapprove. In a University of Cincinnati poll released Monday, 30% approved of Kasich's job performance, compared to 52% who disapproved.

If there was any doubt that Kasich's showdown with unions irked his constituents, the PPP poll also addressed that issue, finding that voters overwhelmingly sided with the unions.

Nearly six in ten said they supported the unions in the budget battle, while 37% said they backed Kasich. And specifically, 54% said they would support repealing S.B. 5 -- the union-busting budget bill -- if it comes up for a vote next fall.

The PPP poll was conducted March 10-13 among 559 voters. It has a margin of error of 4.1%. (1 image)

I'm curious as to who they polled because most of the unemployment around here has been caused by the unions. There used to be 5 or 6 major auto related plants and dozens of smaller ones that supply parts to the major ones in Dayton, and now there's 1 major left. It makes diesel engines.....

Guess they like being unemployed. If the rest of ohio is like Dayton then most of the unions left are the government ones. They have a bunch of real losers in them so it's no great loss.

How about this for wasting Ohio taxpayer money: I used to have a County contract that comprised almost 30 buildings. My job was to do maintainance and repairs on specific pieces of equipment. The county employed numerous employees who were "Supposedly" qualified to do this type of work. All of them I talked to didn't even know the basics of their jobs. I have no doubt they couldn't have even gotten a job being a janitor anywhere else, but they were proud government union employees. So, in essence the taxpayers were paying for these services "TWICE", (the county and my company) to maintain all of the buildings. (we charge right at $100 an hr per person for labor). No wonder they had a large budget deficit every year. Well the people finally got pissed off at the Democratic mayor who was doing this crap and booted her ass. They elected a Republican to fix the problem..... Sounds familiar doesn't it?????

The thing I find most curious is there were no demonstrations around here against what Kasich is doing.... heard of a few in Columbus but local TV portrayed them as being minor. Nothing like Wisconsin.....

how is that the unions fault? did they own and manage the plants and simply impose contracts on management?

how is that the unions fault?

Their demands got to be excessive over the years and some stupid idiot in management caved in because they constantly threatened to go out on strike, well that was a recipe for disaster.

Their automotive products became too highly priced, this made them noncompetitive in the market place, hence they lost some of the their market share. This resulted in less demand for their automotive products for 2 reasons, one because it was over priced and 2 it was also of lower quality than their competitors product. The management finally figured this out and sent a lot of the factories out of the country for "cheaper labor". This lead to shutting down local plants and saying "Sayonara Baby" to their employees.

If the 2 sides had worked rationally to an agreement good for both sides then this post would be moot because they would still be here, but they're not!!!!! What else has this done, union employment is down about 6 or 7% nationwide in the last 20 years and is still dropping...... why??????...... Unrealistic pay demands and outrageous union dues.... Still pricing themselves out of the market......guess they'll never learn......

Washington (CNSNews.com) – Likely Republican presidential candidate Herman Cain supports ending all federal funding to Planned Parenthood, an abortion business that he said was founded to target African Americans and is continuing that mission.

Why is it then that we always here "it's the union's fault", it takes two to sign those contracts, and unions weren't behind the failure of automakers to shift to smaller cars and deliver compelling designs.
