Title: Hey Japan...Got Looting?

Apparently not.

And solidarity seems especially strong in Japan itself. Perhaps even more impressive than Japan’s technological power is its social strength, with supermarkets cutting prices and vending machine owners giving out free drinks as people work together to survive. Most noticeably of all, there has been no looting, and I’m not the only one curious about this.

More at The Telegraph

I'm not that curious. I've never been to Japan, I don't know anything about it beyond they make my Playstation 3 work, and looking at it go you'd think a nuclear reactor powers it, so I have high hopes that they'll fix their power plant reactors because they've got enough experience with that stuff.

I also have high hopes because I live on the west coast, and I don't want any of the fallout coming here, but I digress... GOT KAMIKAZE?

I'm not curious because I do know that culture is full of VERY hard workers. People who work hard for what they own have pride in it, and respect for what's not theirs. More than this they have pride in themselves....A LOT of pride...sometimes it's a little too much pride.

In other words, I'm willing to bet Japanese culture doesn't suffer welfare queens gladly.

Also, they read from right to left...so maybe WE really are the backwards culture

I don't know, I could be wrong. Whatever the case may be people all over the world, especially in places like Greece, should take note of what dignitiy looks like.

What does Greece have to do with it? There is no looting because the area hit is a small town AND the Japanese practice socialism so that they can limit poverty and the crime and chaos poverty creates.

I think maybe his point is since the Greeks acted just like the teachers in Wisconsin they have no dignity, or integrity for that matter....

Maybe one "Socialist" (as you put it) society can teach another "Socialist" society a few lessons in things such as Pride, Integrity, Honesty, Dignity, Responsibility, etc, etc, etc. I know its not a big thing to most idiotic socialists, (or Democrats) but it sure looks like it means something to the Japanese!!!!

By protesting? Why do you so called right wing ding bats hate protests? Sons Of Liberty dressed as Indians and looted a British vessel of its tea.

They had "no dignity, or integrity" either?

The Greeks were protesting about their "freebies" being cut, hence trying to ensure that eventually they and their children would be royally screwed when their government went bankrupt...being selfish..... It's all about me, not my children)!!!!

The teachers protesting to keep their "freebies", hence trying to ensure they would loose their jobs when the government went bankrupt. This accomplishes what for their children?????? being selfish..... (It's all about me, not my children or others children)!!!!

The Tea party was a protest about personal "freedom", hence trying to ensure that they, their children and everbody else in the country would have the opportunity to have a good life. not being selfish...... (its about everybody not just me)!!!!

So how does "not" being "morally corrupt" equate to having no integrity or dignity??????

I guess some people have no problems whatsoever about being a moral POS!!!! Isn't that called Liberalism!!!!!

What does Greece have to do with a 9.0 Japanese earthquake????? Also, Japan has an extensive and expensive social welfare culture and they are more in debt than Greece is per GDP. The author - a right wing kook it seems - is trying to make that the Japanese are Tea PArty Republicans or something. Try taking away a Japanese social program and see what happens in Japan. Ever see a Japanese riot? I have. Not as scary as Koreans rioters but pretty scary.

The article was pointing out how the Japanese value higher moral standards than the Greeks..... nothing more nothing less...... read between the lines if you must.

The Japanese value and respect their elders because of the wisdom they provide, and do what they can to take care of them as such. They are not "disposable" there as they seem to be here (hence ObamaCare). So if they like a welfare system that helps the elders then so be it, it's their culture not mine......

So what was the riot about????? Making sure the Liberals left town?????

It's a stupid analogy. I doubt the blogger can find either nation on a map.

PS: I am pretty sure Greeks value their elders too and both are low crime nations but one has 10 million the other is at 100 million and an industrial giant. One is European the other is Asian. What idiot would compare the two?

The teacher's union protest was praised by the police for their civility and good behavior and they cleaned up after themselves - no looting and no destruction of property. So why bring them up in a discussion of looting?

Low moral behavior...... like the Greeks.......

So why do pictures of the capital show a different story, estimated at $7 million in damages. No looting but low moral behavior!!!!!!

So why do pictures of the capital show a different story, estimated at $7 million in damages. No looting but low moral behavior!!!!!!

Old disinformation. The new estimate is $347,500 - less than the $500,000 the liars first claimed it would cost just to evaluate the "damage".

While urging a judge to scale back protests, a state Department of Administration official said the state Capitol sustained $7.5 million in damage. State officials could not immediately provide a basis for the number, and later backtracked from it. The new estimate: $347,500, some 20 times less than the original one. And there are indications that even that could be high.

As for low moral behavior...

The protesters "have adopted an ownership ethic in the building, treating it with the utmost care and respect," wrote Jason Tish, executive director of the Madison Trust for Historic Preservation and a local field representative for the National Trust for Historic Preservation.

He called the demonstrators "evangelistic about their respect for the building."

"Handwritten signs on glass display cases, rest room doors and granite pillars demand care, cleanliness, and respect for the building they call ‘Our house.’ High humidity and salt and dirt residue may add to the cumulative impact on floors and painted surfaces, but any damage to the building is unintended," he wrote.

So I guess my next question is how would you feel if somebody broke into your house, stayed for a week, trashed it and then on the way out the door said "Chinga tu Madre".

What would you say to them.... "Did you have a good time, come back again".

I kinda doubt that, but then again I don't know you personally!!!

Why? It's what happened in Wisconsin!!!!!! They weren't invited there, they went there anyway and trashed the place (irrelevant of the cost) and basically threatened some of their lives..... So how is it a bad analogy.... or is it I because I left the threatened part out before?????

Or are you really saying you don't mind people not having any morals?????

They don't have to be invited, the Wisconsin State Constitution says they have a right to be there, its their capitol; not to mention their taxes pays for and maintains it.

Your moral compass is grossly out of adjustment.

Ok fine we will fight on your level for a second then.....

Just because they "Supposedly have the "right" to be there does that give them the "right" to trash the place and threaten its occupants with bodily harm?????? (Isn't there laws against that sort of thing)???

If you say yes then you just proved my point..... Liberals have no morals!!!!

How do you know the Capitol was trashed, who told you? What if that's a lie?

I'm old and my memory ain't what it used to be, but didn't I quote and post a link to this for your edification before?

Damage by protesters to the Wisconsin state Capitol will cost $7.5 million to repair.

Twice in his memo, Stephans said he’s providing an "educated guess" about the repair costs.

But the memo was not operative for long.

The same day, the state provided a different memo, from Peter Maternowski, deputy administrator of the Division of State Facilities. It was written that day, addressed to Huebsch.

That memo said the cleanup would cost $347,500 if the work did not require a historic preservation specialist. That’s 20 times less than the original claim.

Among other things, the budget-priced memo said Stephans’ estimates included restoring portions of the building to way they were in 2001, after the major rehab project was done. That sounds like a lot of work for painter tape removal.

By March 7, 2011, the Department of Administration reported that all signs and banners in the Capitol had been removed. Some of the signs are being considered for preservation by the Wisconsin Historical Society or the Smithsonian Institution.

Tish, the preservationist/blogger, returned for a look that same day.

"The extent of what I saw today is just chips and nicks -- cosmetic damage," he said in an interview. "I don’t see how they (protesters) could have conducted themselves any better."

Tish said the building bore the signs of the "accelerated cumulative effects of lots of people going through the building. I saw no intentional damage."

This smells like an effort to pour gas on the anti-protester fire. The claim was ridiculously high. And that gets a Pants on Fire rating.

Here's another:

Nick Carnahan, a Wisconsin native, does architectural work on renovations and restorations of historic buildings, including one recent project on a federal building that involved marble repair. Carnahan, who is familiar with the Capitol but has not visited it in recent days because he lives in Seattle, noted that the $7.5 million estimate cited would be enough to pay several skilled laborers to do cleanup for years.

"The numbers that came out yesterday from the state just didn't make any sense at all," he said. "It just seemed very exaggerated."

www.jsonline.com/news/statepolitics/117409458.html

The protesters were using Blue Painters Tape; here's why:

3M 2090 Scotch Blue Painters Tape is a type of masking tape that removes cleanly without adhesive transfer or surface damage for up to 14 days - even when exposed to direct sunlight. It is a medium adhesion masking tape that is ideal for:

* Painted walls and trim,
* Woodwork
* Glass
* Metal

www.pearsondistributing.c...Masking_Tape_p/3m2090.htm

Those who would like to see the citizens of Wisconsin managed like a flock of sheep use hyperbole like "trash the place" when no such thing occurred; "While urging a judge to scale back protests, a state Department of Administration official said the state Capitol sustained $7.5 million in damage."

Bodily harm?????? Hmm - here's an account of a politician being followed by protesters yelling "shame, shame".

webcache.googleuserconten...eaten+bodily+harm&ct=clnk

No violence there.

Perhaps you would post a link to an account of threats from a credible source.

I wouldn't be surprised if there have been threats just because crazy people are out there, and those should be dealt with appropriately, however everything I've read, with indicates that the protesters have made every effort to see that that stuff doesn't happen.

If you say yes then you just proved my point..... Liberals have no morals!!!!

Spoken like a Dittohead.
