* 13th Century: Provence, France - The Rhone River was inhabited by a dragon named Drac, the town of Draguignan was later named after this beast. However, the worst attacks seemed to take place in Beaucaire.

* 1572: Bonn, Germany - Ulisse Aldrovandi, an Italian naturalist, was said to have a lindworm in his collection that was supposedly killed that year.

From the site

Dragon Theory Theory of Flight (1) This theory that a dragon had incredibly long wings, strong muscles, and hoolow bones like a bird.

(2) This second theory is that a dragon ahd a second stomach that was filled with hydrogen or some other typr of gas that is lighter than air. The wings were just used for steering. The dragon would breather fire to release the hydrogen to lower himself/herself to ground level.

Theory of Fire-breathing (1) The first theory relates to the Pernese Dragon. It is believed that a dragon would chew a phospherine rock and mix it wit a chemical in its stomach to produce flame.

(2) The seconfd theory relates the second theory of flight. That is, a dragon had a second stomach filled with hydrogen or a flammable gas. It would then grind its teeth together to create a spark and breathe the hydrogen out to create a flame. It is said that one dragon even mastered the ability to breathe fire backwards. This creted a jet-like repulsion system to fly very fast. So fast in fact, that he would destroy towns just by the shackwave from his passing by.

Natural History, consists of 37 books covering mathematics, geography, anthropology, zoology, botany, agriculture, pharmacology, mineralogy, and much more.

In Book Eight of Natural History, we find some fairly detailed information about "dragons." Book Eight also contains information about Crocodiles, Serpents, and other reptiles, ruling out these as candidates for the dragon. From the reading, It could be that the "dragons" mentioned here meant the largest of all snakes, the size of which is now extinct or are very rare today. The following are quotes from Book Eight: Chapters XI, XII, & XIII, XVII. (source document: Book Eight of Natural History.)

Dragons are well documented throughout history, yet no mention of talking apes until Darwin invented progressives.

So dragons were typical gas bags full of flatulence? I guess their only claim to fame would be that they could self ignite through the spark technology. Their teeth must have been made of steel or flint (my theory). Regular enamel just doesn't spark (or tolerate phospherene rock chewing) or else there would be no beer drinkers left in the world.

I wonder if anyone has ever found their bones, maybe of ones killed in battle? A skeleton of a human on top would be a nice touch, as I've seen old pictures depicting human riding them in battle so that's been documented too, by the criteria set on this site.

I would look in China, they had the most sightings, as evidenced by their thousands, probably millions (if we count their pottery) of depictions. Look for a dino looking animal with steel or flint teeth and a human skeleton strapped to the back. Shouldn't be too hard to find.

I don't know about that theory I posted. I posted it because it was humorous. The point is that there is historical evidence that dragons possibly lived when humans did. A dragon is a dinosaur.

I'm thinking of heading to China to look for a beasty that matches your criteria. They were sighted there the most.

They are extinct now.

Some Japanese fishermen did catch a rotting one though. Google it. I have it posted here as well.

If they just caught one, rotting or not, how is it considered extinct?

A dragon is a dinosaur.

A dragon is a mythical beast, for whose existence there is exactly zero evidence.

Figure 1. Four of the photographs taken by Michihiko Yano aboard the Zuiyo-maru on April 25, 1977. A, B. Two front views of the carcass. These were the photos that inspired many to view the carcass as plesiosaur like. C. The only clear photograph of the back of the carcass, showing an apparent dorsal fin and myocommata along the spine (see Figure 5). D. The carcass on the deck, with the anterior end toward the right. A fifth photograph (not shown) is an almost identical view of the carcass on the deck, and provides no additional information.

It was actually a giant serpent (boa) that ate a child that Pliny writes about and not a dragon.

The dragons that Pliny does mention are very clearly to my reading to be based crocodiles since he meantions them being found in Africa and India.

No he talks about crocodiles and snakes separately. He clearly said a dragon. He was there. You weren't. It was probably one of the few dinosaurs left after the flood. The people feared them and killed them all over time.

I think that the people Pliny talked to confused the two because he mentions Africa (Ethiopia) and India as places where the dragon now lives. The only creature that he probably saw was the giant boa serpent in Rome which in your post is mis-identified as a dragon - click the link to the book and read a few pages down. There were no dinosaurs that co-existed with humans.

But there had to be since Stone's world is only 6000 years old.

I have seen illustrations of people riding dinosaurs and dragons. That's good enough 'evidence' for me.
