Why I supported the IRA: Republican forced to defend backing for terror group... as he chairs hearing into Islamic radicals

By MATT BLAKE

Last updated at 2:58 PM on 9th March 2011

A Republican congressman has defended his support for the IRA during the height of the Troubles that blighted Northern Ireland and England in the 1980s and 1990s. In an astonishing defence of one of the most bloodthirsty terror groups in recent memory, Peter King, 66, said his issue wasn't with the Irish Republican Army (IRA) because it 'never attacked America'. He said the IRA were different from al-Qaida because it was a narrowly focused homegrown movement while the Islamic terror group has attacked the U.S. and other countries. Mr King, chairman of the House Homeland Security Committee, made the controversial remarks before he chairs a series of hearings on Thursday into Islamic radicalism in the U.S.

He said: 'I understand why people who are misinformed might see a parallel. The fact is, the IRA never attacked the United States. And my loyalty is to the United States.'

He made the controversial statement days after admitting he has ramped up his security in the wake of 'hostile phone calls' and threats from overseas as he prepares to chair a hearing on Islamic radicalisation in the U.S.

He has come under fire for his long-term support of the IRA, whose cells have been behind some of the worst terrorist atrocities ever carried out on British and Irish soil.

The group was responsible for between 1,826 and 3,528 deaths during the Northern Irish conflict between 1969 and 2001, the historian Malcolm Sutton told the New York Times. One of their worst massacres was the infamous Omagh bombing, in 1998, which tore through a busy shopping street in the Northern Irish town, killing 29 people and injured 220. King made regular visits to Northern Ireland in the 1980s and 1990s developing close ties with members of Sinn Fein, the organisation's political wing, including leaders Gerry Adams and Martin McGuinness.

In 1982, King told a pro-IRA rally in Nassau County, New York: 'We must pledge ourselves to support those brave men and women who this very moment are carrying forth the struggle against British imperialism in the streets of Belfast and Derry.' Three years later he declared, 'If civilians are killed in an attack on a military installation, it is certainly regrettable, but I will not morally blame the IRA for it.' Today he said he was right to advocate that the IRA be brought into peace negotiations to stop the violence.

King will preside over Thursday's congressional hearing. He says he believes the Muslim community should do more to renounce al-Qaida and work with law enforcement.

Put it this way. That's between the Irish and the Brits.

Unless of course you are a Catholic internationalist that thinks you are on a Catholic Jihad/mission from Gawd and that justifies setting off bombs in shopping centers full of innocents.

Which Irish? Do you think Protestant Irish,Jewish Irish,Buddist Irish, atheist Irish, etc, etc, etc, should be forced to live under Catholic Law that forbids things like divorce?

And make no mistake about it,the Catholic Irish that run the IRA want a official Catholic state.

Well, there can be no question about the Irish being oppressed. That's been true their whole history. Same as the Scots. The Irish and Scots tribes spent so much time and blood fighting against each other that they never had a chance against the more organized and less emotional English.

As for the IRA,that whole thing is fueled by the Catholic Church and goes back to Martin Luther and Henry the 8th. The Catholic Church was a shadow government all through Europe with their own courts and more power than anyone today would be willing to believe, and they miss it and want it back.

Dey be on a mission from Gawd. A Christian Jihad.

You have exposed yourself as insane once again.

You can't answer the point of common law and self governance without the meddling and taxation of some sort of pre-established Queen. You are so lame on the issues of self-governance you probably think the UK has a pre-established order because the SUN NEVER SETS ON THE ENGLISH EMPIRE.

Still, why should the UK rule Northern Ireland? The UK can't handle the turmoil as a failing EMPIRE. And it is apparent everyday.

The insanity of your analogy proves my point, puff piece. You are insane.

The UK has consistently mismanaged Northern Ireland for decades as the queen holds on to her tax base with guns and oppression against civic minded people attempting to demonstrate a method of public debate.

You wouldn't know what that discourse meas or meant over the decades. You are too busy with snorting FOXTV up a straw you are too high to understand the intent of rebellion.

Sarcasm, won't get you anywhere, sneakypete. No one wants oppression; they want liberation within their own methods of conduct.

What is wrong with you? We have discussed this same premise in the past. You think the status quo is GOOD. In some cases it might be; but for many it represents oppression. Having a queen means NOTHING to most Northern Eire's population. Freedom with dignity without some queen's armed guard to dispel an insurrection is a happy place.

You don't have a fucking personal opinion ABOUT ANYTHING other than your mouth organ from being mesmerized by your prolific givers, correct? And then you wonder, what happened? Why does this stuff drag on and on and on without solution?

Because the popular media is a pack of lies. And as result, you believe in lies about the entire world around you. Can you shake the lies from your own flesh and blood and research the truth? I doubt it. You are too ingrained about your lies that the truth would give you a heart attack.

Yeah, that must be what it is,huh? Can't be because the Irish are natural slaves. If not to England,to the Vatican.

Still, why should the UK rule Northern Ireland?

Not that I really care, but why not? Most of the people in norther Ireland are Protestants or non-believers,and they have no desire to be ruled by the Vatican. Isn't that reason enough? Or is it that you don't think these people have the right to make that decision for themselves?

The UK can't handle the turmoil as a failing EMPIRE.

And the Vatican and/or the Republic of Ireland can?

How about this,Buckwheat? How about the Catholics in southern Ireland mind their own fucking business and focus on southern Ireland, and let the Protestants in norther Ireland worry about norther Ireland?

OOOPS! That's right. You believe in Catholic Empire, not the rights of individuals to determine their own lives.

The UK has consistently mismanaged Northern Ireland for decades as the queen holds on to her tax base with guns and oppression against civic minded people attempting to demonstrate a method of public debate.

Oh,yeah. There is no doubt about there being somebody on this thread that is insane.

I really love the respect you give those "civil minded bomb throwing Marxists" that you seem to worship.

And "Uncle Joe Stalin" really WAS a kindly grandfather type.

No one wants oppression; they want liberation within their own methods of conduct.

What the hell is THAT supposed to mean? I know you have a point you are trying to make, but you need to make it clearer.

You think the status quo is GOOD.

No,I don't. The truth is I almost never think about it at all because I am an American, not a Irishman. On those rare occasions when I DO think about it,I think the Protestants of northern Ireland have a right to live free of Catholic oppression if that is what they want.

In some cases it might be; but for many it represents oppression.

You are speaking of course of the Marxist Catholic bastards in the IRA. IF these boneheads are so worried about living free, maybe they should just move their murderous asses to the south, where the Catholics are in firm control?

Naw,they don't WANT to do that. What they WANT is for all the people in norther Ireland to come under Catholic domination.

Having a queen means NOTHING to most Northern Eire's population.

You have hundreds of queens in southern Ireland and in the Vatican. Most wear black robes, but some wear red robes.

Freedom with dignity without some queen's armed guard to dispel an insurrection is a happy place.

Is that any way for you to speak about the Swiss Guards?

Still, why should the UK rule Northern Ireland?

Because they want to be ruled from London. Its been put to one vote after another and they reject closer ties to the south. The south feels the same way, you plastic Paddy asshole. Stop supporting terrorism.

Well, [W.A-R.'s] got to do something for attention, his multiple personalities aren't speaking to him any more, and his imaginary friends keep finding excuses not to come over.

Now you've done it Bucky!.... upset the Torrie terrorists. They may have to have the Fake IRA bomb a few dozen innocent women and children, to regain the illusion of moral superiority.

Ireland and the UK are both in the EU so there really is no more border there anymore......
