If you want to get national attention as a governor these days, don't try to be innovative about solving the problems you were elected to deal with - in education, transportation and health care. No, if you want ink and television time, just cut and cut and cut some more.

Almost no one in the national media is noticing governors who say the reasonable thing: that state budget deficits, caused largely by drops in revenue in the economic downturn, can't be solved by cuts or tax increases alone.

There is nothing courageous about an ideological governor hacking away at programs that partisans of his philosophy, including campaign contributors, want eliminated. That's staying in your comfort zone.

The brave ones are governors such as Jerry Brown in California, Dan Malloy in Connecticut, Pat Quinn in Illinois, Mark Dayton in Minnesota and Neil Abercrombie in Hawaii. They are declaring that you have to cut programs, even when your own side likes them, and raise taxes, which nobody likes much at all. Rhode Island's Lincoln Chafee has warned of possible tax increases too.

Jerry Brown wants keeping taxes in place that are about to expire on the ballot - Grover Norquist says no, that would break the no tax pledge he requires Republicans to sign.

You have the courage to tell the masses what no politician told them: you are inferior and all the improvements in your conditions which you simply take for granted you owe to the efforts of men who are better than you. Ludwig von Mises in a letter to Ayn Rand

Raising top income tax bracket rates has far less negative economic impact then cutting spending on the poor. The GOP isn't about fiscal responsibility, it's about breaking social welfare programs so upper income earners can benefit.

Since January 3, 2011, Republicans have controlled the power of the purse.

I'm curious as to what school taught you that load of B.S.????

Most people who are poor are poor for a reason, they are lazy, stupid, drugged out, no pride, vote for Democrats, etc, etc, etc ........ So what would "really" happen economically if you gave the poor a good education and a real job that they could make a good living doing????? And wouldn't less unemployment be better fiscally for the country, less money spent on rediculous "social issues"?????? I know this is an alien concept for some folks but..... this means the economy would be much better and our country would be much better off because the poor people wouldn't be poor anymore and so therefore wouldn't have a reason to vote Democrat!!!!!!

So you call the poor lazy, then suggest the solution is to give them a good education and a real job. Which means you don't believe they are lazy.

And, since the GOP wants to cut programs to help the poor get an education and good jobs while preserving tax breaks on income over $250k and subsidies for oil companies, I have absolutely no idea what point you are trying to make.

Since January 3, 2011, Republicans have controlled the power of the purse.

I didn't say all the poor were lazy, I said the poor were poor for "one reason or another". But the biggest reason is the Democrats like it that way and do everything in their power to keep it that way..... And if you vote for them then you are empowering them to keep "YOU" and the poor in your places, poor and stupid.....

I'm curious as to "exactly what program" the GOP is trying to kill that keeps the poor uneducated, can you tell me or is this just another "generality"???? Why would the Republican want to keep people uneducated????? That only means more "Uneducated" (poor) people voting for Democrats.... Your statement just doesn't make sense. Nobody that actually works for a living votes for a Democrat, why you ask??? Why would anybody work 60 or 70 hours a week and then turn all of their money in taxes over to a bunch of idiots in the government to spend as they see fit on a bunch of slackers and crooks.... it would be insane to do so.......

The "Tax Rate" was left the same for everybody not just the supposed rich, so I guess this means you still don't have to pay your fair share... right!!!! And if its such a big deal about "Social Issues" then why don't the Liberals pay a lot more of their own money in taxes or contribute to charities to help those poor people instead of expecting everybody else to do it?????? Or is it because you Liberals think your "act" of caring (when you don't)is right and what everybody else is doing is wrong and evil?????? You do know that any self respecting Doctor of Psychology states "Liberalism is a mental disease".... I can send you a link to that article if you wish......

I think that we should make a new tax law that states "Anyone who votes for Liberals shall pay 78% of their earnings in taxes to help the poor".... Now wouldn't that be nice, let the hard working people in this country keep their money and make the "Self appointed ruling class" pay for all of the social issues.... instead of it being the other way around...... sounds good to me.... Oh thats right I forgot the highest wage earners back in the 70s and 80s (I.E. hard working people) used to pay a 78% tax rate because of the Libtards in the House and Senate!!!! Turnabout is fair play you know !!!!!

Ya know I haven't yet found the website "Libtards are Us" with all of the "talking points" it has on it but I imagine it's a real hoot!!!! I'll bet you know where it is can you send me a link?????

" America is at that awkward stage. It's too late to work within the system, but too early to shoot the bastards." Quote from a book written in 1996. Since its now 2011 I wonder if now is the time to start shooting the bastards???

Do you just bozo people because you cannot answer charges or just because you can't handle counterpoint? I'm guessing that's why war just disappeared.

I'm not afraid of anything, sorry.

But i don't waste my time with folks who can't form intelligent thoughts and are only participating to attack the poster. I enjoy political debate, I don't care for insult exchanges.

I bozo folks who resort to "attack the poster" type posts (Eric), are only here to disrupt the forum (No Gnu Taxes, Continental Op), or can't form intelligent thoughts (Mad Dog).

I enjoy debating issues with folks who have different views than my own, which is why i'm here. I don't waste my time with the personal attacks or posters with nothing of substance to say (Hondo, Farstky).

I had you on filter at one point but took you off.
