Jim went to the VA hospital this afternoon for his scheduled checkup. They admitted him. His remaining leg is not looking good. Three surgeons will confer tomorrow morning on whether and when his right leg will be amputated. When I talked to him this afternoon, he consented to me asking for prayers regarding this latest health issue.

Once they start removing toes and feet,your days are numbered if you are a diabetic. My older brother spent the last 2 years of his life as a blind man lying in a bed in Duke University Medical Center,as they amputated his legs 6 inches or so at a time and tried to save his life. I think he was 29 when he died. Granted,there has been TREMENDOUS advances in the understanding and treatment of diabetes since then,but it's still a slow-motion death sentence that isn't so slow once the amputations begin. I don't wish this on JimRob or anyone else.

I hated Reagan and still was very upset when he was shot early in his presidency. I never wish harm on anyone. It is against my religion to wish physical harm on people merely for not liking them. I came across one guy broke down on the I-5 two years ago on the way to Portland from Eugene. He had turned the garden hose on me during a tree sit I did to save a tree at the Sheldon-Mac Murphy Johnson house near Skinner's Butte. I had responded to the water by ignoring him and continuing to sit on my platform while he was being a baby. He lived nearby and also had yelled several time driving by and after the sit was over he would ignore me if he was alone, and taunted me if he saw me at the restaurant near that Museum and his place if he had his two muscular pit bulls on leashes with him. I always ignored him for the most part. I stopped and gave him a ride to the next exit with services and then drove him back to his car and went on my way. I was trained in how to stay non-violent during protests, and ultimately this guy apologized a month after I helped him and we get along now. I guess you could call me chicken-shit and cowardly; but sometimes it just takes more courage and self control to treat others as you would have them treat you. And I am human, I was not exactly feeling warm fuzzy thoughts about him as I helped him. But I have good self control. A skill that took me decades to develop. I have done my share of lash back actions when younger. But as I get older, I try to enhance my wisdom rather than to compound my ignorance.

They were still actively trying to take over the world and were oppressing and killing people during the time that war was going on. Heh, I'd probably be in the field too busy to do that. ;-D But I would never double tap anyone still alive left wounded after a unit I was in took an objective and moved back through it to fully secure it. I am fully qualified do do infantry tasks. But I would never kill wounded, or captured enemy personnel. As for a wounded Nazi party member, I wouldn't go out of my way to see him, or to go finish him off.

Heh, I've spent many boring hours sitting in ambushes waiting for someone to walk into the kill zone to fire them up in training, and would do that in an armed conflict. Just as I've been taught to assault in the direction of an ambush pulled on me and my unit. Target acquisition does not require someone to shoot at you first in an armed conflict.
